if you had both #845 and # 476s on hand and a properly prepped surface (BF SRC, KAIO, KSG) which would you use to top and why??

OK, I'll be the dissenter again :D Noting that I have both on the shelf and use both regularly, I'd go with the 476S. Lasts longer, easy enough to use (I'm kinda partial to paste waxes) and longer lasting (been doing side-by-sides with these on the Blazer).

But OTOH the only reason to top SG at all is to improve its looks, and 845 might look a little bit better, at least until it's been washed a few times.

I wouldn't want to top KSG at all though, I'd just keep adding more until it eventually picked up some marring that needed corrected.

jimmie jam- Heh heh, I appreciate somebody who sticks with something that works :xyxthumbs I've been using #16 since forever myself.

I'm doing a side-by-side between pre/post-VOC 845 and so far they seem to look and last the same. Have you noticed any difference?

Like Accumulator said, 845 is more of a beauty wax compared to 476s longer durability. That being said, 845 lasts longer then both Nattys Blue and #26 on a DD. Also, 476s doesn't look too bad! RMG + 476s is a really nice combo, with really good durability, IME.

Hey JCrawford, nice to see someone else from the area on Autopia :)

I've used IW845 and like the looks of it. I can't say anything about durability though. I don't leave any LSP alone long enough to be able to tell :chuckle:

I'll go with the IW everyday and any day. I no longer have the patience to work with products that require a belt sander to remove. The IW is by far and away their most popular product, FWIW.

I've never had problems removing 476s! Its harder to remove then other waxes, when you use too much product, but that can be easily changed, just dont apply too much.

Heh heh heh..belt sander. Stick some MF bonnets on a Cyclo and buff it off that way- when I was doing the Blazer the areas with 476S buffed as easily as those with 845 perhaps because I let the Cyclo do all the work.

If the 476S is applied correctly (which is not hard at all), it will buff off easily with a MF towel. You probably applied way too much.

gotta agree with this statement.

i'm a first time 476 user a month ago. ive used it twice. similar shine to 845 imo, but very easy to remove. it goes on and off very similar to every paste i own. i pretty much buff off by hand and not machine and it's just like wiping the car down pretty much.
