Collinite 845 vs Zaino

Hi folks,

1st post! I just got my motorcycle tank and tins back from painting. Looks really good with 7 coats of clear! He said he used Collinite's 845 Insulator Wax to seal it. I've read here that it's pretty good stuff and last a long time. I'm a longtime Zaino user. So, I have a few questions.... Should I strip the Collinite's off and continue with my trusty Zaino? If so, how do I strip off the Collinite's? OR, should I keep the Collinite's on? If I do that, what should I use to keep it shiny (don't think I could put anything but Z-6 or Z-8 on it)??

I would take it off with any mild polish which does not include protectants....as far as I know you are not supposed to wax/seal fresh repaints for at least 3 months, the paint must outgas. Polishing is fine, however.
 
To decide between Zaino and Collinite, you have to figure out which one you like more. I prefer the look of wax now, so I use the wax...But if you already have Z products, dont go out and spend money on Collinite if you like the look of Zaino. Just strip it off and go to work with your Zaino.
 
Im sure you could...That is what he recommends, so it should work just fine before preparing to use his products.
 
Ok, I wasn't sure if Dawn would strip the Collinite. Zaino prob wouldn't stick unless the Col was totally stripped off.
 
i'm with what was said above...if you already have Z, don't spend the $$$ on collinite (unless you want to expand your arsenal). 845 is excellent stuff...durability is in-line with Z...depending on conditions it is within weeks or a month of a few coats of Z. it's cheap and one bottle will last you for the rest of your natural life on a motorcycle.



845 is also a PITA to remove from applicators. being "detergent proof"...it takes a lot of dish soap to clean it off. to ensure it's all gone, i would hit it with a paint cleaner or light polish, as said above.

Zaino will allow new paint to breathe and cure properly while still protecting it. I have done this personally on many freshly painted surfaces.



Any paste wax will *not* allow for this and will in-turn cloud the surface. On one instance (on my Integra), it caused the paint to have an uneven texture.



While no head-to-head tests were ever done, I've never had a problem sealing fresh paint with Z.
 
Dawn wash will probably not remove freshly applied Collinite. Just wipe down with some isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and inspect finish for any marring that may have been hidden by such a questionable "early" application of a wax product to a freshly painted surface. If mar-free, just do your normal Zaino application and enjoy riding for the rest of the summer. :D
 
Thanks Josh... I don't feel too comfortable with that, either. I might call Collinite HQ tomorrow to find out what the recommend to remove the 845.
 
I used P21S Total Autowash and it removed every bit of Zaino that was on my car so that I could start over with different products. I love the P21S TAW. Very harsh, but good.
 
I've heard good things about TAW too. I wonder if it's too harsh for new paint.

I'm not a Zaino user, but check out how Collinite beads water before giving up on it! Of course on a cycle you may never get to see water beading.
 
First off, you should not seal or protect a new paint job in any way for at least 30 days, second collinite is way nicer looking than zaino IMO as well as having amazing water repellancy and durability.



Zaino looks like plastic to me...
 
Some don't consider collinite a "beauty wax." It has been a long time since I used it, it lasted a while.



Ron, when was the last time you used zaino? I thought the words plastic and zaino went out about 5 yrs ago or longer. :nixweiss
