cobra paint correction

This was by far the worst paint correction ive had to deal with. This was paint correction and wax only.It came out pretty good , i wet sanded some areas but some of the stuff was just to deep to remove and there were rids everywhere.I wasnt pleased with hood but there was some body and paint work on the hood and there was some grinder marks on the hood i just could not remove after compounding multiple times ,it wouldhave needed a full wet sand and time and budget just did not allow for it as i spend 3-4 more hours polishing than was budgeted for any way just because i wasnt satisfied.

First i washed car with ONR and taped trim.

Before i started the PDR guy to remove 8 dings from car.

Polishing process - 16 hours with flex and alot of pad combos both wool and foam.

Being that the car was black i decided on a 3 stage polish process using

(1)megs 105 compound and 3m ultra cut compound- 2 of the heaveiest hitters there are.

(2) Menzerna SIP and prima swirl[was testing cut of both]

(3) mezerna 106 with lite cut/finish pad.

I peformed IPA wipe down and used Infratech cm 5300 color matching light after each pass to check work, there were multiple areas i had to add extra passes.

After polishing was complete I washed car with foam gun and two buckets.

Did entire car glass, plastics and trim with VMG.

Dressed tires with megs hot shine gel[ a sample i had gotten to try]

Then used Nattys blue for LSP.

Total time about 19 hours.

Thanks for looking!

Wow, that paint was hammered!! All of the older Mustang's I have detailed in the past have had horrible paint to work with.

Awesome job bringing it back to life!! The owner must have been speechless when he saw the car...

Looks great!!

How did the compound combo work out for you??

Thanks for the props guys[especially rickrack ,i think most strive to do work even close to what you put out], i always try to do the best job i can given what i have in customers budget and time.I even ate like 4 hours and went to buy the 3m extra cut becuase i wasnt happy with some areas,.The compounds worked good seemed like i was getting more cut with cutting foam than wool.I love the 105 it does in 45 seconds what normally takes 2 min.The paint was trashed worst ive ever seen as far as deep stuff. You will notice on the trunk there is a long scratch that runs thru both sides of 50/50 . I wet sanded half of it twice compounded twice then hit it with sip and 106 and it only dulled it by 50 %. But as bad as the paint was i can say one thing ,there was no orange peel like there is on most new cars.
