Coating recommendations for metallic black?

TTBear

Allan F
Thank you, in advance, everyone.

I am about to do the full monty on a new car - my own Lamborghini Huracan, in Nero Helene. I've never seen a metallic paint like this - the flake is SUPER fine, and has hints of gold, silver, and even tiny red flecks, if you look close enough.

My options for coating: CQuartz UK, Optimum Gloss-Coat, Wolfgang Uber Ceramic, Black Label Diamond Paint Coating, Blackfire Crystal Paint Coating.

I might consider ordering Kamikaze, but I can't find a Canadian distributor, and would like to do the job this coming weekend, so ordering from the US isn't truly an option.

My last car was full on black (Nero Noctis) - I loved the deep, deep black gloss, but I am hoping that a metallic will require less maintenance - that Nero Noctis was the death of me and my OCD traits, hahaha.

Could you guys with experience of the above, recommend something purely based on gloss and depth of shine? I am not all that interested in longevity (I enjoy working on the car, and if I had to apply every year or more, that wouldn't bother me).

Thanks so much for any help! Without your help previously, I would have been petrified to work on not only my own cars, but definitely, my friends'!

Cheers!!

I've only used PBL v1 (and used it on my metallic black srt) I loved it but as much as I love PBL , I realize it might not be the 'best' coating out there.

How about a picture of the vehicle?

This will be interesting

Thanks for the input - I'm not necessarily looking for the "best" coating (is there really one, true, "best" one?? haha) - just some recommendations from guys here, who have the experience I hope to draw from. I do have a brand new CQuartz UK bottle that is unopened, but I am kind of wondering if Wolfgang Uber Ceramic might be a better option.

Here are a couple pics (first few from the dealer, when it arrived at the dealership):

Getting it ready - I have all the time in the world (unfortunately) - it's still mid-winter here, so it won't be driving season for at least a month :(

The car looks great in the dealer pictures, but it of course is not perfect - there are a few RIDS here and there, but a lot less imperfections than I have seen previously with new Lamborghinis.

Thanks for any input - as always, I greatly appreciate everyone's help on this forum!!! I will put up a dedicated post when I actually get down to it this coming weekend.

Cheers!!!

Oh - and another question, please - it hasn't had XPel installed yet. I am assuming that I should avoid any coating/sealant/wax/anything, in the areas that will be covered by XPel?

Thanks again!

Thanks for making everyone here at the office drool!

I've got metallic black (2014 Metallic Spark Black) on my motorcycle and Polish Angel Viking Coat looks amazing on it. I've had one bad experience with a coating actually muting the flake on my old metallic red motorcycle, but Polish Angel has been looking amazing. Just recently I've been getting a lot of compliments and I haven't even had time to polish it yet.

Polishing of course is going to make the biggest difference, but Polish Angel looks amazing and the Viking line was formulated to hold up in colder climates. I really consider it more of a durable sealant but topping it with Rapidwaxx or Gold Zirkon only makes it look better and sounds like its the perfect match for you since you enjoy working on your car.

I say check out Polish Angel.

I highly recommend Kamakaze Myabi, but if you can't wait I would go with black diamond. Too many problems reported with uk.do not coat where the film is going. Very nice car!

Yes, Polish to perfection then apply PPF before applying a coating. In many cases you can apply a coating over XPEL.

BTW - Gorgeous car!!!

Wow - thanks for the super fast replies, you guys, and thank you for the car-compliments. It's great to have a friendly bank manager, hahaha. I had a friend of a friend who offered me WAY more for my old car than I thought it was worth, so I jumped on the sale, thinking I wouldn't be able to afford another one for a while, until a used one came down to my level. As it turned out, a guy backed out of a new one, but had placed a non-refundable deposit on it, which put me in a GREAT position to buy it!!! It ended being less than any USED Huracan on the Canadian market right now. Win!!!

THANK you for the input regarding coatings. Polish Angel is one that I hadn't even thought of, and I see that it has a Canadian distributor. I will avoid the CQuartz UK, as per your suggestions! I have some Wolfgang Uber Ceramic coming for a friend's Gallardo, so what I might do is do a small section in both, and then go with whichever is better.

Thanks again, everyone - have a great week!!!!

I second the Viking Coat, looks great and easy to apply. Only knock I have seen is longevity and it so easy to use you won't mind doing it as needed.

I would get a pro coating on that. DIYs are for fords, mazda and toyotas lol.

Do you really believe there is that much difference? And not just the insurance policy?

I'm not so sure. I am VERY obsessive compulsive, and in my humble opinion, can do a better job than many "professionals", whose work I have assessed. I think the line between pro/consumer products, especially coatings, is becoming increasingly blurred. I also think that the look of WHATEVER it is that you're applying is only as good as the preparation of the surface to which you are applying it, and to that end, I am confident in my abilities. The nice thing is, I have no schedule working against me, so I can take 50 hours to do what a professional detailer has to make happen in a quarter of that time.

I'm not looking for the multi-year duration of product - in fact, I can't see myself waiting that long to polish, regardless of what last step I am using, so I am fine with the consumer-based products, which I feel can look as good, or, with better surface prep, better.

Regarding the XPel, my installer has a product called ProSkin - I really do believe that it is rebranded CQuartz, as EVERYTHING is identical, albeit with the ProSkin logo instead. The applicators, bottles, cloths, and even the smell of the products are all the same. I used it on the XPel on our BMWs, and it worked very well.

Thanks again, everyone - it always amazes me how much help I can obtain from you guys!!

I have been a CQ UK user for a long time, I would recommend that but this spring I'm going to give polish angels cosmic a try and see. I would use gold zirkon before the pff install, you'll get a one of a kind shimmer ;)

Also note, if you are going all the way and have a rotary I jewel the paint too, I found that added that over the top ocd look I was going for the first time.

Thanks for the advice! I do have a rotary (Flex), and I'll do exactly that - good idea, thanks - up until now, I have been relying on the PC DA to do a final once-over with Menzerna 4500, but the rotary is a great idea.

Thanks!

Anytime, it really add's that extra mirror/polarized look.

Here was my actual process, but I also wet sanded/denim paded the entire car because it has been painted previously with tons of orange peel and left me with a ton of paint to work with.

The shoemakers kids got shoes...

I hope this helps. How to Jewel perfectly by Todd H.

Glosscoat or CQuartz UK! Congrats on the Lambo. Have a feeling metallic paint will be easier to manage.

For deep shine gloss you may choose from
(but not very durable):
Polish angel master sealant
Pomponazzi Balsoo (or pie with CQ UK +balsoo) ;)
Carbon Collective Oracle

"Exotic" Balsoo you can find on rakuten.com
