CMA Now Shipping to Canada! :)

CMA is now shipping to Canada! :up

It looks like I will be the first customer in Canada that CMA will be shipping to! I just received an email from Phil at CMA stating that my order will be shipped either today or tomorrow once they receive their resealable pouches from UPS that adhere to the outside of the shipping package for Canadian customs purposes.

Looking forward to receiving my MF Magic Towels, Big Blue Drying Towels, PC Access Kits, and PC Viper MF Bonnets. :D

Being the first Canadian customer they were nice enough to give me a discount for answering a few questions regarding UPS shipments to Canada.

Thanks again Phil! :bounce

Wow, this will be a huge leap for all canadians who have been trying frivolously to get products that they couldnt find.

Horray for CMA!!!

I'll wait 'til they ship by something other than UPS. UPS charges too much to broker the parcel. Is there any where in Burlington, Vermont or Plattsburgh, New York to buy stuff? We went to Burlington on a day trip Saturday (spent 2 1/2 hours in line for U.S. customs to get into the U.S.). I didn't see any stores that sold car care products, but I didn't look really hard. I was kinda pooped.

Check out www.motorhead.net They (apparently) ship USPS! :xyxthumbs I was going to buy my Klasse from them till I got it 2nd hand.

This is a bit irksome about CMA. I got a reply email less than a month ago saying they had to stop because it was so troublesome and something to do with the petroleum distillates and air transport and Sept.11... :(

Oh well, if I need some Pinnacle, Blackfire, etc, now I know where to get it! :)

I have found UPS is the most expensive transport there is. Expect the brokerage + GST + PST to be 30% to 40% the value of the shipment in CAN funds. I.E. value =$100 CAN, UPS=$40+

U.S.P.S. is the best method of shipping to Canada from a cost perspective. Once it reaches Canada, it is handed over to Canada Post who only charges $5 CAN brokerage. Of course you still have to pay GST + PST but sure beats UPS.

The second best method is FedEx. They are much more reasonable than UPS.

I try to avoid UPS as much as possible. It is a rip off!

I totally agree with Rob_K that using the Postal Service is the best way to go. I"ve even had shock absorbers sent via the post from California to Vancouver, BC. Takes about a week to deliver, and the cost savings are substantial.

Anything but USPS is big rip off!! UPS ripped me off big one time. After that I swore I would never use them again.

Will CMA only ship with UPS or would they consider sending it via USPS?

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to sound picky or ungratful. I'm glad CMA is now shipping to Canada. I'm just not rich enough for UPS.

TaxLady - You may want to search on a Mailboxes, Etc. or or something similar. CMA could ship there and you can drive down to pick it up. I used to live in Keene, NH and had friends in Montreal (man, I miss the gyros!! & St. Denis) so we'd always make a trip and bring stuff for them.

I don't know how Canadian Customs is lately.

Good Luck !

The reason UPS is so much is becasue they are the only shipping buisness that isn't in the hole. My dad has the exact numbers for all three companies. Fed Ex has alot of debt, and USPS has alot also (even though they have no taxes, registration ect.) UPS can run for somthing like 40 days with NO income. Just working off money they have in the bank. Thats why they are so expensive.

Still makes a hole in my pocket.

:(

A good rule of thumb for Canadian shoppers is to double the US price to figure your final Canadian price (includes shipping, duty). Using UPS will add a good deal more on top of that (I think it depends on object's value). UPS is the devil!

I bought something shipped USPS Air and it just zipped through the border no problem - I don't need no stinking "brokerage"!

FYI: The $5 fee is a standard customs inspection fee (government), and "duty" is the sales tax levied depending what province you live in (GST only for Albertans!).

I was probably one of the first to complain about CMA not being able to ship to Canada. UPS charges too much which means only USPS or FedEx is the other alternative. Till CMA ships USPS marking on the customs sheet that the package is a gift and total value is under US$10 then it would be worth it. Come on CMA you can do it!!!! :)

Taxlady would it not be cheaper to pay the extra UPS rate rather than sitting at customs for 2-3 hours. Time is money. Even at minimum wage that ~$11-$16. Not to mention gas and wear and tear on your car. My view is that UPS would be cheaper and a lot easier. JMO

When I order items from Fast Toys in Winnapeg,( Manitoba) Canada the shipping cost via UPS was similiar to my cost for an item of like wgt and value ship to me from somewhere in the states. Is USA to Canada billed at a different rate?

Congratulations to CMA for their expanded service in order to take care of our Canadian buddies. :xyxthumbs

Getting a US mailbox does not make any financial sense at all! About five or six years ago it was about $75.00 US per year to rent one of those boxes. Besides most delivery services will not deliver to a P.O box. Even if they did deliver to a P.O. box, how are you going to get the products back home, FedEx?

What are you going to do, drive down to the States to save the UPS charges?

You cannot possibly save any money by driving down, forget about the price of gas, the time, Canada Customs, the wear and tear on your car and think of all of the bugs that you will have to clean off you car when you get home. Besides, you probably will not even find the exact products that you want which are available at CMA.

I’ve heard a lot of crying on this forum that CMA did not ship to Canada, and now that they do the crying is just as bad.

I am very pleased with their decision to ship to Canada! Especially since they are a major sponsor of this forum, just my .02 worth.

Well, I'm not making the trip to Burlington just for car care products. My husband gets a nasal spray that isn't available in Canada (if you break open the tube and swallow the cotton, you can get high!?!)

Renting a Mailboxes mailbox isn't cost effective. They probably would deliver. When I had one here, it was listed as suite 206 (or whatever), not box 206. U.S. customs did take 2 1/2 hours, but it was an outing and probably won't take as long if we don't go down on a long weekend (long in Quebec). If I bring back stuff made in the U.S., I only have to pay GST & QST.

The UPS thing has me so ticked off, that I refuse to deal with them. I've been charged $30 brokerage on an item that cost less than that. Then I had to pay GST & QST on the total, including the $30 brokerage fee. I have a friend who refuses to accept delivery of stuff sent by UPS.

So, it is worth my while to pick up stuff, if I'm in the U.S. anyways.

Taxlady,

Can you explain to me why UPS charges so much to ship from US to Canada (brokerage fee)? Is this fee not applied if something to coming from Canada to the USA? If this is so the system is not fair. This will definitely protect Canadian commerce for US invasion. Indirect tariff? I'm confused. :nixweiss

If there are no duties or taxes owed there is no need to have the package brokered.

I ask one of my friends who works for UPS about shipping to Canada. UPS acts like a broker. According to UPS any item that orginates from United States, Canada and Mexico there is a very small broker fee. And very rarely there are taxes added. If a product orginates from say Japan and is imported into the states and sold by any company and is shipped to Canada, there is a shipping charge, duty fees along with taxes which can be very high. The way I understand it is that the duty fees are split between UPS and Customes. Customes gets the bulk of the change. The same charges are applied if a package is coming from Canada to the U.S.. Now some of you are wondering why USPS doesn't charge these fees and taxes. Guess what? They do!!! USPS over looks alot of things. Plus USPS is not as organized as UPS (need i say more!). You also need to include insurance. When a package is shipped from the states to Canada you are automatically paying for insurance. So for paying $45-$75 or more for Duty fees you are getting alot of service for a package to arrive safely. Plus prices went up as of 9/11. jj

THAT'S WHY UPS EMPLOYEES GET PAID SO MUCH MONEY AND ARE ABOUT TO GO ON STIKE AGAIN. UPS, THOSE DAMN DIRTY APES!!!

That's part of the reason I'm ticked off with UPS. They broker it for you even if you don't need it, or want to do it yourself.

Brokerage fees are supposed to be what you pay to have someone else handle the duty, etc. for you and clearing it through customs. Then you reimburse them on top of the fee for their effort. If there is insurance, that is normally charged with the S&H charge. It is often optional.

USPS is not forgetting to charge stuff. It's Canada Post that handles brokering, etc. When it is sent from the U.S. by mail, there are two shippers and the USPS has done its bit by making sure that the parcel has the customs info on it. Then the domestic shipper, Canada Post, handles customs, etc.
