Clearkote opinion

I have been really pleased with Vanilla Moose and Clearkote's carnuba wax, so I posted on another forum telling them how pleased I was with the products and asking who had used the products. One reply I got was:

"never tried as I have heard they are mediocure at best. Have used Mequire Glaze with Soveran and saw no appreciable difference. Seems like an extra step. (Use a good polish, Menerza or Einszett and a little Soveran)"

This reply was accompanied by a pair of finger wagging unhappy- face icons. I was simply amazed and posted a reply that I thought it was a bit harsh to just a product so harshly without any experience in using it. I'm sure I'll get flamed for daring to give my opinion on a forum that seems very strongly biased towards a differenct synthetic polish that shall remain unnamed. Amazing how you try to be friendly and helpful and end up being the goat. Jeez....

There are always going to be people who feel very adamantly about a subject, especially certain car care products. I mean you would think that the cars paint is an extension of the person itself its so personal. Like so many say who don't even agree on the same product, but that is find something that makes you happy and use it.

You will find mixed results here on Clearkote, some very happy, some mediocre, some negative. If you like it, fantastic! If you don't, well its just part of the experience. We're all achieving the same common goal, just taking different paths.

Never stop exploring!

Just keep CK as your secret weapon.

Even after trying pretty much everything, when I want to really wow a customer, I use Carnauba Moose as my last step. Durability for me has been on par with S100 and #26 (3 months of beading) and the look really lasts too.

Some of those overly eager fans of that synthetic product have tried to invade the show and shine forum I mod on ot.com, but the carnauba (S100, CMW, Souveran, etc) fans far outnumber them and they give up. I've asked some of them to hang around since they have experience using that product so they can help others who want to try it, but they seem more interesting in bashing other products and those who use them. I don't get it. :nixweiss

As long as you are happy with VM/CMW, keep on using it and ignore the haters. :xyxthumbs

Just do a search for Scottwax's photos for proof! Thats what convinced me!

Yeah, but after that it is up to the results you get from VM and CMW for you to keep using them. :p

All forums are slanted towards a certain group of products. It's probably greatly influenced by their "resident guru", and of course their sponsorship.

One night I went surfing on every detailing forum I could find. I was very surprised to see the popularity of IHG, not that it's a bad product, but it was predominately mentioned on several forums.

After I mentioned S100 on OT.com, it has pretty much become the favorite product there. Since most are not as into experimentation as us Autopians, they find something they like and stick with it. Besides, most of them wax 2-3 times a year, meaning a jar of S100 will last them 7-10 years.

Scott, I have found that if I follow your lead my truck just keeps looking better and better. The latest combo I tried was EX 2x with CMW over it. So far, I will be sticking with this combo until you find a better one to try. The wet and shiney look is unreal. I will try NXT but I really cant see how it will improve this look. Scott, do you think Clearkote QD or Megs Final Detail would look better over the CMW? Or if I top with NXT, which one would you use? Never mind. Try it and let us know what your results are and I will just do what you think. My truck is Arizona Beige, which to me is a color that is kind of a grey silver that is hard to explain.

Either QS or FD would be fine as your QD. I haven't tried topping NXT with anything yet, but if I do, I will wait at least a few hours since NXT gets slicker and looks better as it cures. Go ahead and experiment on your own, I may copy you if the results warrant it!

BTW, I used VM/CMW on a gold Cadillac DTS on October 8th, and it was still beading very nicely and still looked freshly waxed (even had decent slickness!)....so much so that my customer commented on it also. Even better, I had used VM/CMW on his Civic July 11th and it was also still beading (took pics). His Civic is his daily driver (he is a teacher at a community college) so I was pretty amazed that it still beaded. Normally, he has me out every 6 weeks to wash one and wash and wax the other, but the last six months he has been doing some traveling. It seems that VM/CMW is more durable than I thought. Not that I would recommend exceeding 3 month waxing intervals since while it may still bead, the protection from bird bombs and such is diminished when you get towards 6 months. Even so, beading at 6 months with a petroleum/carnauba based product suprised me.
