clearcoat vs single stage paint buffing

I make yo ride bling!! :)
ok, since i have learned to use a rotory sufficiently i believe, everything that i have used my makita with at work has been with all clearcoat paint. my own car is now both, lol. 92 dodge stealth, hood and front 1/4's and top half of doors i had repainted cuz i wanted ghost flames, they r all now cleared. rest of the car has very light scratches n such. i might possibly take the car ot ocean city in may for a show, should i be catious/weary of anything b4 i go over it with my makita?? basically, what r the things to look out for when buffing with clearcoat vs non clear coated cars?

I have not found a great difference, myself, except that the older acrylic paints burn like made, and some of the urethane enamel paint jobs will have--I'm not sure the word--personality, characteristics perhaps, in the paint way too deep to fix.

On the newer cars the single stage is just like the clear coats just with color they are both urethane so treat them the same.Your Stealth should be clear coated.

on a base coat clear coat paint, if u use a polish/cleaner/wax on the car, ur not gonna get any color on ur towel when removing the wax etc...single stage/non clearcoated cars, u will have color on ur towel correct??? i know my car has not had any paint work other than what i had done last yr. i bought the car in 98. the hood, front 1/4 and topof the doors..if i apply any polish to it, no color on the rag. rest of the car...color is on the rag. now im not talkin like major color build up, but u can see the color residue ont he rag though. i had always assumed u got light color, car isnt cleared and vise versa.

Well it could be that the first 6 years of the car's life that the previous owner had some paint done to it. My buddy has a saturn where the roof appeared to be single stage- black paint ended up on my pads but no where else on the car. I assumed that the old owner had the roof repainted but w/out the clear. The rest of the car was cleared though. Just treat everything the same...

I buffed a tt stealth and i remember it as not being 2 stage paint... I know for a fact that when i did a red 3000gt alot of red paint came off.

"Paint" can come off black, yellow, red and white cars without it being a repaint or single stage. Oxidization can happen in any of those realities.

thats interesting, learn something new everyday :) i was considering playin with the small swirls/light scratches on my car this weekend if the weather hold up. most of the marks are prolly not visible to the *average* looker of the car, but i like to have that lil extra *pizazzzzz* to the beast, lol ssr1 with a light cut/polish pad (green/blue edge pad) and my makita should take care of em correct. i just got a sample of ssr1 and will be anxious to try er out for the 1st time this weekend :) then maybe top her with some p21s for the extra touch :))

single stage paint can be a little different. But the process with buffing is still the same. The paint can be softer so start with something a bit less aggressive to start with other than that you should be fine.
