Clear coat fading...detail fixable?

so i planned to buy a car, but checking it out in person

the clear coat was fading on top of the car and on the trunk.

would i be able to fix this by any detailing method such as polishing with a buffer?

or would i need to repaint it and how much avg would this cost me?

You need a repaint. Detailing will not correct, stop, or improve clear coat failure.

Do you have a picture of the damage? If it's simply oxidation, even a chemical decontamination with an AIO-type product will remove it.

Yep, that is failure, not just fading.



A repaint is in order, a good one won't be cheap either.

I just recently got a quote on my BMW hood. A full sand down to the metal, primer, base, wet sand and clear was $350 for the entire hood.
