Cleaning Wool pads - Single Stage Paint

I'm about to use wool pads for the first time. Tool: DeWalt 849 rotary.

My test piece (hood off wrecked truck) is single stage paint. I have a single stage met green painted hood to practice with and a RED track car (also with single stage paint)to actually buff.

My question is this. How the heck to I clean the wool pad? I'm pretty sure they can't be washed; only spurred. I doubt that spurring will clean the ground in paint out, and I obviously don't want to have any issues with paint transfer (dark green on red = yuck.).

Please share with me any tips or instruction you have.

Thank you.

Washing will remove the lanolin from the wool, thus ruining the pad.

Spur the pads well. "Color transfer" has never been an issue in our shop.

All that spurring does make a mess on the floor! Be careful not to track the colored dust into the interior...
