Cleaning wax off Mud flaps

Just wanted to check and see if anyone had any reccommendations on how or what to use to get dried wax off of mud flaps?

Yeah, but I was just wondering because I've never heard of anyone waxing rubber mud flaps, but I frequently see plastic mud guards with wax stains on them.
 
Alot of times i take it off (not my wax work) with 50/50 iso-water mix and a stiff, fine bristol brush and stab at the stain. I stab the bristols into the grooves or grain and wipe with a microfibre and check progress. It seams to work most of the time.
 
Thanks for the feedback folks. The wax was put there by mistake got a bit too close and the edge of the pad swiped the oem plastic mud gaurd I guess is the best way to state it.
 
TOL sells a specialty product called GR-40. It is made specifically to remove wax residue from plastic and rubber trim. Probably the quickest and easiest solution.
 
Alright now... THIS is a real bummer... I STILL have that protective gooey wax on some parts of my rubber mud flaps and it simply refuses to come off. Import cars have this terrible gooey gunk to protect them and the last worry of the dealer is to care about those crummy mud flaps... (they will get mud all over them won' t they ?)

I tried 3M's "Goo Gone" , WD40, kerosene, various bug & tar removers, even Zippo lighter fluid ! none helped... The gunk seems to just come back, oozing out of the car' s body !!

The gunk hıold the dust and mud and no matter how hard you try, the shadow of the dirt just stays there..

What do you suggest against that ??

Try some petrol on a rag, but personally I would have thought a number of the things you've tried so far would have got it off...

Just spray the WD40 directly on to the mud flaps before washing; let it soak for a few minutes and in most cases, the wax will simply wash away. For hard to remove wax build-up; gently scrub affected areas with a soft bristle nylon brush and apply more WD40 while the vehicle is wet. Wash and rinse after cleaning.
 
I got rid of some troublesome wax stains with wheel cleaner, a slight scrubbing with a brush, and a swipe with a microfiber
 
he's not really talking about a wax here guys, he's talking about cosmolene (i think thats how you spell it anyways). Its a petroleum based gel protectant spread over new cars engines, trannys, etc (bare metal) from japan when they're imported to the US. It helps protect against the salt encountered in the ocean travel. If your saying that it's comming from the body of the car, maybe it is... Try taking off the bumper and see if there's any on the bumper support beam and get it off.
 
It could be cosmolene. There must be some way to contact the manufacturer and see how they remove it once they are unloaded from the ships.
 
My post about using the WD40 was intended to help with the original question of reccommendations on how or what to use to get dried wax off of mud flaps.



I guess it would be best to check with the manufacturer about how to get rid of that gooey protective stuff.
