Gentlemen,

Can anybody help me out here? Can any of you guys give me a step by step instruction on how to clean and/or shampoo Uphosltery and Carpets? I the following in my arsenal of things to tackle this:

- Plain Vacuum (Not a wet/dry Vacuum. Just a small one too.)

- Mark-V APC 1:10 dilution

- Mothers Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner

- Mothers Detail Brush

- Mothers Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner

- A couple of Vroom MF towels (I use them only for the interior.)

- 2 buckets

So:

a. How to clean/shampoo Carpets?

b. How to clean/shampoo Upholstered seats?

I have an idea on how to do this but I wanna hear how people who's experienced in cleaning them. I mean, I don't want to end up with discolored carpets and seats or seats and carpets that still has soap left in them.

Thanks.

Well, pretty simple really. Vacuum thoroughly the areas you want to clean. Mist your carpet cleaner onto the surface. Agitate the surface with a soft brush. Let dwell 5-10 minuts, Take a small cotton towell and run it under hot water, ring it out. Start rubbing the area down with the towell, follow back over it with a dry towell. Take 4 Advil. Thats about it with limited supplies. The cardinal sin in carpet cleaning is overwetting the carpet and not getting it dry as fast as possible. If your ambitous, get a regular old fan and put it on the interior when you are done, this will help get the carpet dry. You are not going to discolor automotive carpet/seats by leaving "soap" in the carpet.

I think the issue is if you leave soap it will attract more dirt. It needs to be rinsed clean.

Grabby- This might not come across right :o but I think you really oughta consider springing for an inexpensive wet/dry vac. IMO/IME you can only draw so much liquid out of upholsery/fabrics via blotting/capillary draw/etc. and truly sucking it out with a vacuum just works *that much* better.

From small homeowner-style extractors (e.g., Bissell LGM and Hoover Steamvac Jr.) to used Craftsman wet/dry vac (check your local classified ads), these things are well worth the minimal expense. Around my area, used wet/dry vacs go for next to nothing.
