Cleaning Suede

What is the preferred method for cleaning and treating suede leather?

My Honda has black suede side bolsters and I've noticed they have some slight stains from the winter abuse and maybe a couple drips of #40.

Woolite with the magic 6 to 1 ratio ?
Lexol product maybe ?

Should they be treated with sometype of scotchguard ?

Thanks you,

A wet and gentle brush is all you should ever use for suede. If you use any type of product it will soak into the leather like a sponge and permanently change the look. I made the mistake of using leather cleaner on some old suede shoes I had and it ruined the finish. They were my hiking shoes so I didn't care, but you should care about the bolsters. I would recommend a wetted down cut-off paint brush. Gentle scrubbing power is what you want. Once you've cleaned it up to your liking you will want to brush the nap of the hide back out.
