Cleaning Seats , Carpet , Interior?

Hey yall, I plan on doing a full detail to my 01 VW Jetta with Tan "velour" seats, here this week. I have everthing I want for the outside of the the car (PC 7336, Megs Swirl Free Polish, S100 SEPC, S100 Wax). Now I need to focus on the intereor. Now it is in pretty good shape, I have rubber "monster mats" so those are really easy to clean. Never the less I am sure I will need to clean the carpet underneath nice and good, and the seats, trim etc....



I tried the search, but maybe I am not searching for the right things, or what. Because I really came up more confused then when I started.



So this is what I would like to do. I dont want to spend any more then $100.00 (on solution, vacumme (not sure which one, read alot of things about the Little Green). And whatever you suggest, it would need to be "off the shelf" items. I live in Alaska and shipping always kills me. I am not going to pay $20.00 on some solution and then spend $10.00 on shipping ya know.



Also I dont know how to go about it, what mixes to use, what brush to use, etc....



So any and all advice would be much apperciated.

For just taking care of your own car, a good shop vac might be a better investment than the Bissell. Unless you really mess up the interior of your car, you shouldn't need any special equipment to take care of it. Just a good vacuum and an upholstery brush. If you have a good tank type household vacuum, it will do a pretty good job.

As far as carpet and upholstery cleaners go, what do you have available in Anchorage?

The APC+ is a great product if you can find it there. It is usually sold in autobody supply stores.

If I remember correctly, I think Jngrbrdman has used a carpet and upholstery cleaner made by Prestone, that he has been happy with. Blue Coral makes one (Dri Clean?) that I have used and it seemed to do an OK job. The Prestone and Blue Coral stuff would be more likely to be found in a discount store or auto parts store.

What do you have for stores in the area?

We do have acouple of auto body paint supply stores, that carry 3m and Meg's stuff. That is where I got the Megs 5" Velcro back and some pads for my PC. Also got the Megs Swirl Free from there, so they probably have some APC+. So you are just recomending a Shop-Vac of some sort? Have any recemendations on which ones? One thing I was kind of thinking of the Bissel, is becase I do have a light colored interor so just in case somthing does happen I will have it. I dont know tho.

Be sure you get the APC+, not just the APC. The APC+ is a non butyl cleaner and from what I read, that seems to be preferred.

For the vacuum, it might be worth checking out the blower vacs at Home Depot and Lowes. Several people have them and seem to be happy with them. The blower part is good for getting those cracks and crevises dried out after washing the car. I also use my leaf blower to sweep my garage. Works great and is actually less dusty than using a broom.

Check out your local Sears for shop vac. They have a nice 12 gallon one that takes both 1 1/4 and 2 1/2 inch hoses and is now on sale for $68. Also comes with some nice attachments. Will most likely pick one of these up myself.:)
 
First I tried the ol' upright, suction was about ZERO.



Then I tried the "Euro SuperShark" and the hose wouldn't stay connected to the canister.



So for $69 + for attachments I invested in a Craftsman (Sears) Wet/Dry (shop) vac. It's 12gal with 5HP. I've NEVER used a vacuum that had as much suction as this damn thing!! Not to mention they sell a Micro Attachment set for about $10 that will get into ANYWHERE!!



Highly recommended!
