Cleaning MF after polishing aluminum?

I have some nice raw forged aluminum wheels that do very well with Mother's Billet polish... the only problem is the black residue and the Billet polish destroy the cotton detail towels I was using. After joining Autopia, I now know to use MF as the cheap towels I'm using are most likely leaving fine scratches in my wheels... here are my questions:

1) What MF applicator to use for Billet polish on aluminum

2) How to wash said applicator without leaving a black film in my washing machine!

3) What MF cloth to remove Billet polish with?

I'm ordering my arsenal of MF towles ASAP and I'd like to order the right types and quantities...

Please help me answer these questions as I don't want to throw away nice MF towels after every time I use the Mother's Billet polish on my wheels.

Thanks!

We polish with blue rubber nitrile gloves, and buff the residue off with MF towels. Yes, the towels turn black.

They get washed separate from the other towels, and only used on wheels thereafter.

You wear the nitrile gloves but what to you actually use to do the polishing with (applicator)? And how long does the applicator last due to the amount of tarnish picked up... I couldn't use my cotton towels more than once...

Actually, we use the glove to do the polishing (rub with our fingers, while wearing the gloves), and use the MF to remove the residue.

This only works if the aluminum is in really good shape.

Assuming you don't cut the glove on a sharp edge, you should be able to polish all 4 wheels with 1 glove.

Give it a try - the gloves are only a few dollars at a grocery store.

Great tip... TY! No more throwing away applicating towels after every polish. My wheels are new so I will def be picking up some gloves, hopefully the MF towels I use to remove will last a while... that polish really destroys fabrics.

Forrest,

Upon reading you tip, I picked up a pair of nitrile gloves for my next metal polishing session.

Do you recommend nitrile specifically due to longevity or something about the nature of that material itself that promotes nice metal polishing results?

This is great getting repsonses from folks acutally from Mothers!

With that in mind I have another quesiton I'd like to squeeze in here... My wheel manufacturer (Weld) recommends applying a paste wax to the aluminum after polishing... I'm using the red can Mother's Cleaner Wax, is this correct product from Mother's to be following up with?
