I'm helping my friend detail his Grandmother's Town Car to ready the beast to be sold. The car is green with a tan Vinyl roof. The roof is very, very dirty with a lot of dirt in the texture. What is the best product to clean the roof?

Am I assuming you want something locally?

If so:

Meguiars #39

dilluted Simple Green

Fantastic - you may have to dillute it. (Works great on white sneakers!)

Orange Blast - you may have to dillute it

Castrol Super Clean Cleaner & Degreaser - you may have to dillute it

You can get these anywhere.

Use a stiff brush and a toothbrush for the nooks and crannies.

You'll make short work of all the grime.

If you happen to have a boating store near you, you might be able to get Amazing Roll Off and 303 cleaner locally, the other products should do the job too especially for only prepping the car to an acceptable level for sale.

I'll tell ya what not to use: Comet. My mother insisted that that would work well on the Landau roof of our brand new '74 Impala "Spirit of America Edition", so my dad did it! Bye bye collectibility, resale value and looks!

Most of those products mentioned will work. Try using them with a soft (tampico) brush so that you can get into the crevices of the vinyl. Then wipe it down with a damp cloth.

Try not to let the cleaners onto the paint. They might streak the paint. Many of the products mentioned have Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide in them which can streak paint.
