Cleaning 1930 Ford Model A Original Paint

Does anyone have experience with original paint on a 1930 Model A?

My Father-In-Law just bought a totally original 1930 Model A. He asked for my help in cleaning it up. What polish or wax should I use for something that is 74 years old? :nixweiss

Where's the picture? He picks it up next weekend, I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

Thanks

I'd consult Mike Phillips. PM him, call him at Meg's, but get his opinion before you do anything. Really.

The main thing is to "first, do no harm". So besides washing, all *I* would use on it is Meg's #7 with maybe a straight-wax topper. If it were *mine*, all I'd ever use is the #7, applying it very frequently and very gently. That old-timer has totally different paint technology than anything more modern; it should be treated more like a piece of antique furniture than like a regular car.

BTW, I think it's just *TOO COOL* that it's stayed original for all these years. What a find :xyxthumbs

I would definately ask the Mike.

I've got an all original 1929 Ford Model A Murray Town sedan out in my barn. It was my fathers when he was in college. He payed 150 dollars for it and kept it through school. When he graduated adn went into the Air Force, he bought a convertible and put the Model A in the barn. I have since been given it. It is all original except the volt system has been changed to 12 volt. It is badly needing restoring though. The interior is shot, and although the body is in relatively good shape, there is alot of rust. I just have no idea how to start on it though.

Thanks for you advise. I will pick up some #7 and take it very slow, and I'll try contacting Mike too.

jaybs95,

lol...That would be a great gift to my father in law. Maybe Mike can start a TV show on TLC similar to "Overhauling"

Lawdog,

We are also going to convert the car to 12V.

I'll post pictures next weekend.

Meguiar's already has a TV show that they produce, it's called "Car Crazy" and it's on the Speed Channel. I've never seen it, but Barry Meguiar is the host; I don't think they really show any makeovers...more like just the "after" stuff, collector cars, etc.

Sorry to digress from the topic of polishing that Model A.
