hi all,

i have the Meguiars #6 mirror glazed cleaner wax and i also have the 4* UPP and im about to do a full detail soon once my acura comes out of the shop.

i wanted to know if there are any bonding issues between the cleaner wax and UPP since they are differ brand? i will be applying the cleaner wax first, then apply UPP. thanks for the input!!

Well, it's been a long time since I've used #6. I think it has both synthetic and natural waxes in it. If it has natural waxes there might be some bonding or streaking problems.

If it were me, I would use a good chemical paint cleaner and go right to the UPP.

Being a different "brand" wouldn't concern me, but....
One of the things I go by to decide if a "wax" is OK as a base for UPP or any sealant is the paintable or body shop safe rating. If it is a paintable or bady shop safe product, I think it would probably be OK.
Meguiar's #6 is not considered paintable or bady shop safe according to the Meguiar's Professional Product Guide.
I wouldn't use it before UPP myself.
AIO, UPC or SSR1 would be my choices.

First, if you are having some paint work done (which I don't know if you are, I am just assuming that might be what it is) I would check with the paint guys and see what they say about putting a wax or sealant over a freshly painted vehicle. There may be a "wait time" before you can safely do it. Never hurts to check.

In my experiences, I think I have had my best results using UPP over a clean surface - meaning no glazes, waxes, or anything with oils that may hinder the application and set up of the UPP. I agree with both Charles and Boss that I would use a good cleaner/polish before the UPP. The one exception I would make a consideration for is the AIO before UPP. Even though it does leave protection behind, Charles (and many others) have reported very good results doing it this way. I think he is a good point of reference to what will and will not work on many of the things he has tried.

I've heard of people successfully using UPP over Vanilla Moose. However, when I use it, I'll simply use Ultimate Paint Cleanser as prep after my polishing steps.

Also, as previously mentioned, check with your body guy to see how long the time frame before you can wax it. You may also wish to clay the car in case there is any overspray present.
