Tomorrow I'm setting out to use my new porter cable, and polish a car (my car) for the first time. The plan is to use Optimum Compound and Polish, and maybe finish up with Poli-seal. I may decide I don't need to Poli-seal, and I'll finish the job with Klasse SG like I've been using. In preparation for polishing, I gave my car a thorough cleaning and clay barring.
White paint is both a curse and a blessing. Curse: when you look closely its amazing how much stuff you can see has embedded itself in the paint. Darker colors can look much cleaner from up close when in the same condition. You don't even see the tiny specks on the paint. The color is also a curse because no matter how perfect you get it, it never gets the shine and reflection to die for like darker colors.
Blessing: From a few feet away the paint usually looks to be in terrific shape. Its rare that I can actually see the swirls in my paint. The white's also good because I can easily spot any paint contamination against the white, so I can clay that crap up.
Anyway, when I get the direct sun shine and I see how the paint REALLY is I'm not real happy. I'm still not sure polishing out the paint is a good idea, because it usually looks so good in spite of the swirls. Ah, ignorance truly is bliss.
SOOO, I cleaned the car up, I didn't dress the tires or anything else. I just wanted it as clean as possible. Tomorrow I'll try to get some swirl pics before I start polishing, and if anything worthwhile comes out before or after polishing I'll add it to the thead. I really have no idea why I'm polishing my white, always outdoors car; I just can't help myself.
