Claying for the 1st time

After reading all about claying, I've been itching to tackle my car but I've either been too busy working or it's been too cold. Well today I got back home early while it was still light out and the temperatures were around 45-50F, so I decided to do it.

Here's the steps I did so far:

Wash with Dawn to strip the old wax off.

Wipe with distilled white vinegar to try & remove surface stains.

Wash everything down again

Clay with Mothers Gold Clay bar.

Wash everying down again & dry with MF towel.

It would have been nicer if the temperatures were a little warmer because it was hard to handle and manipulate the clay bar. I could feel the clay making the surface smoother. I think that when the temperatures warm up I may get addicted to this procedure. :D

After I dried the car it actually looked like I waxed it. I can't wait to see what it's going to look like after I use my PC to polish it with IP, FP, AIO and then possibly Zaino, NXT or a good carnauba!

The temperatures were pretty decent tonight in my unheated garage so I decided to put on a coat of the Mothers carnauba Cleaner Wax.

Most people would probably look at my car now & say that it's got a great shine but I see all the problem spots on the hood and the top that I will address as soon as the warmer weather arrives next month.

I've got some IP,FP,AIO and some P21S on order.

I'll post some interim pics tomorrow when there some light. :)

This is how I got my car looking after the process you mentioned.

Wash

Clay

Menz IP via PC w/ Orange LC Pad

Menz FPII via PC w/ White LC Pad

Klasse AIO via PC w/ White LC Pad

Added 2 coats of Zaino by hand <-- (the only difference between your steps and mine)

Topped everything with P21S and day later and wahlah:

Sorry to thread jack with my pics...but the process you mentioned yields excellent results and wanted to share my pics.

Love the pics! Just curious as to why you used P21S over the Zaino rather than just layering the Zaino or going straight to the P21S?

Well my car sits on 24/7 365 a year. The Zaino was used mainly for the durability and protection. I did notice the day that I did the Zaino by itself was highly reflective. THe day I put on the P21S the paint seemed to have darken just a taaaad bit and added a little more depth to the color.

This spring I will do the whole process over and probably use strictly Zaino Z2-Pro. THen again I might try Natty's for the first time or Pinnacle Souveran for the first time, who knows :)

The only problem is that using the Zaino and then topping topping with wax and I cant layer the Z anymore and must use carnuaba's strictly. In order to use the Zaino again I would have to strip any carnuaba off then. :( I wish sealants (Zaino) on top and carnuaba could be layered together with no ill effects.

A note with the Menzerna Twins....make sure you work the polish in long and thourough. I did a test on the trunk lid where one half I spend a good 5 minutes on, and the other half I spent only about 2 minutes. The half that I spent 5 minutes on looked much better.

This is my Mother's car after the Same exact process I used for my car except instead of Klasse AIO, I used P21S paint cleanser and P21S wax with no Zaino underneath at all.

Thanks guys. All this information is really giving me an education. I plan on stripping the Mothers carnauba wax off as soon as the weather warms up and I can't wait to try all my new stuff coming in. The problem is that I'm a perfectionist at times but my car is 18 years old and the paint will never be perfect. I can only try to do the best I can with what I'm working with.

I still get a lot of compliments on the car but I always tend to see all the trouble spots on the finish.

01bluecls - heya nice cars btw!!!

just a thought - you might want to white out the number plates in your piccys... never know whose reading these forums... ;)
