claying everytime you wash

my brother seems to think his car is going to get cleaner by claying then reapplying a wax everyother month or so, wouldnt this cause some problems if its a consistent thing or is it ok?

It probably won't hurt the paint. The only benefit I see is if he lived in an area with alot of airborne contaminants such as a railroad yard or petro refinary. Otherwise, a waste of clay, money and wax.

If you have applied a sealent such as AIO or any wax it would stop the contamination from reaching your paint. Washing with a good shampoo will rid "most of the contaminents and like andriver said it is a waist of clay and wax. Pinnacle and P21S get pretty expensive. You could also tell him to look at his clay when he is done. Did it take anything other than wax of the car? You would be able to see the contaminents on the clay.

6']['9- I dunno, I clay (well, "spot-clay") with most every wash and it doesn't seem to strip my last step product or do anything else undesirable. I seem to pick up a lot of contaminants (yeah, I wash properly with a strong wash solution) and clay gets 'em off quickly and easily.

If you clay properly, it won't cause any trouble, and there's nothing wrong with waxing as much as you like (MANY Autopians wax every month). And claying before you wax WILL ensure you're not waxing over dirt. I say your brother is doing just fine.
