Clay Product Recommendation?

Hi,

Background Info: 2006 Acura TL with Nighthawk Black Pearl

I have to clay my car and I was wondering if someone can please recommend some clay products. On certain areas that I have noticed (side mirror and hood), I found a yellow paint looking bump on my side mirror and a red bump on my hood. I really have no idea what it is, but they really do feel like bumps. It's hard and I can't pick it with my fingernail. Is this "paint overspray"?

I have read that there are different levels of strength for clays. Can someone please recommend some products?

Thank you!

If you can't remove it with your fingernail, clay is going to take forever to remove it. Anytime you use clay, especially on a dark color car you need to polish. Anytime you use an aggressive clay, you need to polish. Add the fact that most Acuras have pretty soft paint, you are in for some fun. You may want to try a solvent approach to see if the overspray can be removed that way.

If you need an aggressive clay, Clay Magic Red is pretty decent.

Oh it is? Do you have any solvent recommendations to use on those bumps?

I am planning on using Ultimate Compound (by hand) after I clay each panel and finishing it up with Ultimate Liquid Wax. If those bumps can't be removed by clay, then I guess I don't really need an aggressive clay. In that case, would any clay suffice?

Thank you!

You should have regluar (fine) clay in your arsenal anyway. Go grab some Mothers or Clay Magic Blue from the Autoparts store and see if it makes a dent in them. I've got a bunch of solvents I personally use, but I hesitate to make recommendations based on the fact that in the wrong hands, really bad things happen. You could try WD-40 which is Kerosene based and see if that dissolves that stuff.

Ok, thank you. I'll be ordering the Mothers clay kit from Amazon.

I understand. Can you please tell me how to use WD-40 on it? Just squirt some on a MF towel and wipe hard or something?

As for claying, would I be able to wash the car once with ONR and clay/UC/wax panel by panel over the course of the weekend? The car will be driven during that time as well.

I'd steal some of your girlfriend/wife's cotton makeup applicator pads, soak with wd-40, let it dwell on the surface for a few minutes and gently wipe with a microfiber. Never wipe hard with anything. Always test on an inconspicuous area.

Thank you, Dan!

What do you think about this question?

Use caution if you use WD-40 as it contains strong hydrocarbon (aliphatic) solvents, which may compromise the integrity of the clear coat causing it to occlude (become opaque, clouded or yellowed.

Aren't those the same solvents in Zaino and Duragloss?
