Clay over sealant?

I wash, clayed and zainoed my new car when I got it. looks great!! I wash it 1-2X/wk and use Z8 after. (started with multiple Z5-Z2 layer and a CS).

My question is I had planed on re detailing every 6 months with more Z2/Z5, but do I clay it again? I'm assuming that if I clay it I remove whatever sealant is there. But maybe in 6 months it all gone anyway??

If you test your paint by rubbing your finger/hand( wrapped in a sandwich bag)against the surface ,you will find out if you need to clay or not.

rough= must clay.

smooth= no need to clay

I use Sonus green Ultra-Fine clay before refreshing my sealants (KSG and UPP). It does *not* strip the existing sealant if used properly, just cleans the contamination off/out of it.

Pick and area that's prone to contamination (rocker panels, above the exhaust outlet, etc.) and clay gently. I bet the clay will come up dirty ;)

Why does it matter whether the clay removes the Z2/Z5 or not if you are planning on "re detailing every 6 months with more Z2/Z5" anyway?

Personally, if I am going to apply a new coat of sealant and the last detail was 6 months ago on a daily driver, I will probably clay the car.

Clay can really refresh the paint, so I'd recommend claying every 6 months even if you can't feel much roughness by hand.
