Clay bar on black plastic bumper strips

I have just purchased a Clay Magic clay bar and Clay Magic body shine.



I am planning to use it on my wife's car and have read that clay bars can be used on Paint and Glass, what about on black plastic bumper strips ??????



I am hoping that I may be able to remove white polish residue from the strips with the clay bar.

I don't see why it could hurt to try, but I've never heard of anyone trying this. :) I hope it works for you, but somehow I doubt it would work. I think trim tends to be rougher and more porus than paint, so the clay may not be able to touch the polish residue. Good luck though, and let us know if it works!
 
Back to Black would probably be much better choice. Actually, I leant my friend some back to black when he was up here this weekend. In the process I mentioned that people here recommended Peanut Butter for the same problem (wax/polish residue on black plastic). He tried it out on a car the other day and was raving about how well it worked. He said that the door handles were caked with wax and that it seemed to just flake off in the peanut butter. Might want to give that a try.
 
I clay just about everything, with great results. Latest example: the black plastic rocker panel cladding on my WRX. Worked great. Not sure how it'll work for polish residue (guess you learned the hard way about masking off those areas). I've had better (or at least more permanent) results with an eraser, as opposed to peanut butter, but you gotta be careful you don't mess up the texture of your plastic. Try the clay first.
 
Oh yes, I forgot: In addition to the more frequently suggested eraser and peanut butter, bug and tar remover has also been suggested.

Accumulator.......yes I have learnt the hard way, it was before I discovered Autopia and P21S, every time I look my wifes car I cringe.



I will try the clay bar first, then the eraser or peanut butter.



At present I rub it over with Vinylex which covers it until it rains and washes the vinylex off.:(

actually...we used the eraser trick..it works.



But im currious...about the penut butter. Ive wanted to try this. Which kind do you use, and how do you appply it? And then can you just use a trim dresser on it?

Doesn't matter what kind. Just warm it up with a micorwave and slab it on. I think you have to use a white eraser, right?
 
yeah, i have a white eraser...not the gum ones.





do you rub it in...how long do you let it sit (this is the PB). do you then just dress it afterwords?

For those that asked.......No clay wont clean polish/wax residue off black plastic bumper strips.



I used a white eraser and it worked perfectly which was lucky as our peanut butter supply was running low and the kids didnt look happy!!!!
