My brother has a Honda CR-V and was going to remove a lot of the swirl marks from the paint for him. He has a and old sport version of the cr-v and it came with like the sport logo and vinyls on it and was just wondering if it was safe to clay bar and polish(XMT 360) over them without damaging them?

The clay bar will be on problem, are the logos on the top of the car? if they are on the surface, I would be careful about what polish or SWR that you use, as it might lift the color on the logos....if they have clear over them then you have nothing to worry about....can you feel the edge of the decal?

Yeah i can feel the edge of the vinyls and even some of them oare peeling in places but rock hard in others. here is a photo. i would like to do his truck for him. So clay bar shouldn't be or should be a problem. And what about the 360?

I would recommend removing the decals but you may get some shadowing.

Claying will probably remove the lose spots on the decal... Probably not a bad idea... Who would want to have lose decals anyways?

If you polish, then I would be scared that the decal would get caught in the pad and do some damage...

The clay bar will be no issues but since I have not worked with 360 I would cautions of using anything that is abrasive on the decal...since you can feel the edge its on the surface and you could lift the color

You can use the clay on all the paint around the decals, there probably won't be a need to go over the decals with the clay ...you can also go over the decals with the XMT360, just don't go over them too hard and no cutting pads...remember carefully clean the edges of the decal after you are done to get any remaining residue ;)

I just clayed and XMT 360'd a chevy 2500 today. It had the 6.6L diesel motor and was a Z71 edition so he had quite a few decals stating those facts on the truck. I had no problems whatsoever with the clay or the XMT 360. I used a PC with a white LC pad on 5-6. So you shouldn't have any problems but do be careful in your pad choice and polishing technique around and on the decals.

Vinyl decals need love too. the 360 isn't gonna be too hard on them, in fact it should brighten them up but like Poorboy said make sure you get the residue around the edges of the vinyl.

I have found that taking whatever lsp you applied and go back over these edges reapplying it gently rubbing out residue with it and wiping it off before it dries works very effectively.
