Clay and PC, is it safe?

I personally would never try it. This method of usage would be most safe on cars with very few contaminents, in which case, claying by hand would not take very long. Also it would be better if you stopped to refold the clay every so often.

But then, at the end of the day, it seems just like more of a hassle than doing it by hand.

I also remember a comment by someone that tried it and said the clay just kept flying out of the pad... Terrible waste of clay and too much of a chance for damage, if you ask me. Doing it by hand doesn't take that long.

I just don't see the advantage, claying by hand is a cool thing to do. By hand you get monitor the lubricity better, and work better in tight areas. I will have to agree with Justin for sure, clay by hand is the way to go.

I'd personally be afraid that the clay would fly off and I've have to toss out perfectly good clay (well before it hit the ground anyway) too often. Also, by hand I feel you can judge how much you have to go over the paint too.

I've heard thouse things nicknamed "swirl-o-matics". Never used one myself, but even with my arthritic fingers, claying isnt THAT hard via hand. I hear its worth it to use that w/ a rotary in extreme situations where compounding is going to follow anyways, but for the average car, its a PITA.

ProperAutoCare is selling a PC pad for use with clay...http://www.properautocare.com/popadclap.html

Has anyone tried this? Seems a bit scary to me.

Adventurous me.... I tried a pad/clay tool from Griots, ( basically it is the same product) and it worked perfectly. Watch the clay after each section to see if it is becoming loaded up. Just keep the foam cuff adequately lubricated and you have just automated claying !:xyxthumbs
