city bylaws

I love to detail my car but when i go to was the outside i get a ticket for doing it in my drive way. Its over a $100 fine and i dont know what to do. Does anyone have any sugetions on how to clean the exterior without having to go to a coin wash or an auto wash

In Canada? No. Other than using some kind of waterless wash I think you are hosed (no pun intended). If your government isn't going to let you wash in the driveway then you don't have much choice. It happens in the states all the time that we will get some sort of water rationing and you can't wash your car. Or they pass some law like the one we have that gives a similar fine if you are washing your car and letting the water runoff into the gutter. The solution is to wash the car on the lawn or just direct the water that way.

No. Calgary is funny because of their water use bylaws. Go to a friends house in Okotoks or Airdrie. Or go to a coin op at night, just using the rinse setting and your own bucket.
It is a great reason to run a detail shop though.

pei,
with that type of pressure on the residents i would think the detail shops would be a boomen business..

I don't know the industry there, but I know the coin ops are doing well.
Calgary is a dusty city, not a dirty one. They don't have much salt on the road, lots of ice but little snow and no melting till spring. Lots of oil. Lots of money. You'd think detail shops would do well.
I'm 5500 kms from there though.

Detail shops do amazing out here, due to the mass amounts of money from oil, and the weather people get their cars detailed alot. I know my dad does both his cars atleast twice a year. It is a hard buisness to get into though alot of high end cars and picky people. If you can do it well you do really well. Coin ops are doing really really well, most of the time you dont need a $7 car was at the gas station (those who use them) so insetad then spend a buck to spray off thier cars. But yes the detailing buisness out here is booming, few shops that cant get customeres in its a great area to open a shop (but very expensive to live so not worth dong it unless your already here)

maybe QEW could be an option for you. i can never get my car super clean with it w/out spending an hour washing, but im sure if u do it enough you can come up with some sort of system with it.

Another vote for QEW or you could get the new optimum no rinse wash and shine. I havent used it yet but from what I hear its a step above QEW. The water you will create with QEW is so minimal, just a tiny puddle around the car. Definatly check it out.
