Chrome... interior/plastic coating or paint?

I have a 90's era Reatta coupe.

Some/most of the interior trim bezels that surround switches and gauges that have a thin edging of "plastic process chrome plating" have places where the chrome plating has deteriorated. I have tried several methods of removing the old chrome (best way I have found believe it or not are several applications of "Dollar Tree" oven cleaner), but have only found extremely expensive chrome paint / coatings on the net to refinish with :(....

Looking for suggestions on either chrome paint / coatings, or a reasonable re-plater pleeeease....

:)

Thanks,

Nic

You have a few options, but the best are not the cheapest:

1. Try to buy new replacements or find nice used pieces (junkyards, eBay, online vendors, etc.).

2. Have them replated, which is actually called vacuum metalizing.

3. Try some chrome paint. That might be acceptable on very small pieces, but I personally don't care for the look.

4. Paint them to match or contrast with the other interior colors. That may or may not be acceptable to you.

Sorry, but I don't know of a cheap way to do it right.
