Choosing a truck bed cover.

I am looking into a truck bad cover for my truck. I don't want the snap down type and I don't want the fiberglass one piece types. I think I would like one of those that are in sections and fold.



I was wondering what kinf you all might have and the pros and cons of them.

Danase..I did alot of research on truck bed covers....



the ones that I like and come with a great warranty..and are tri folds..easy removal if need the full bed ..best part is no rails or spaps to install ..just lays on bed rails and uses a spring clamp system

both are tri folds...lifetime warranty...can be found for arond 300 or less with free shipping...need to search around....lowest I found was 297.00



I have looked at them both in person and are very good construction...



I had a snap and also a velcro cover..never again....velcro seems to lose its grip after repeated used...and they curl on the edges





the snaps plain suck...if the cover shrinks you have a hard time snapping them..or a snap pulls thru...and they curl also..and they suck in cold weather trying to snap and unsnap..

I have had bed covers for 20 years on my trucks and that's going back to the days of drilling your bed to put on the snaps. I know it sounds dumb now but it was hig tech then.

I want to bring up one point in the colder weather I mean anything 40 degress or so a snap type cover is tuff to install with out heating it up.

So I would sugest a Acess roll up or Truxcedo they look good and have a low profile, fit great, don't leak in the rain, have had 18 to 20 inches of snow on top no problems. These units have no bows to mess with, installation on a nice day I rate at 2 beers. or 1 hour maybe 1 and half, if you read all the instructions. I have had my trux. on for five years looks good and I have rolled it up in January to load and rolled back on after no problems at all.



The section models are okay but you have to take off to load big items, mulch or furniture. roll ups just roll up when your done roll back. And the difference between prices of the snap type, sectioned, or good snapless roll up is not much 50 dallors.

I've had a number of covers on trucks, but the one I liked the most was a Retrax. I know you are probably looking at the soft fold-ups, but the Retrax cannot be beat for security and flexibility.

The only thing you lose is about 11" at the front of the bed for the cannister that the cover rolls up into. It does leave some space underneath for longer items, but this is the only drawback as I see. It is VERY secure, and keeps out almost all water...the only water I had come in my bed was from the gaps at the sides of the tailgate, and this had nothing to do with the cover. They do not, however, claim that it is waterproof.



I liked it so much they used my testimonial on their website.



I also like the soft fold-up covers as mentioned in a post above...just not as secure, but they remove very easily when you want them out of the way. About the only thing I see as a possible drawback is that if stored for long periods folded up, it could cause some permanent creases and/or splits in the vinyl over a long period of time. Obviously not an issue if you have it on the bed most of the time, though.



good luck with whatever you choose, it's hard to go wrong as most brands/types have their strong points.

I like the look of the retrax alot over most anything thing,but I use that 11 " of bed space alot, and a bud of mine had one on his F150 and when he hauled mulch it got into it somehow I'M not sure but he has that ability. I had my truxedo off my bed and stored rolled up during construction of my house for 3-4 months and when I put it back on in the spring it was perfect, no problems with any lines cracks, once it sits in the sun for afew minutes it's back to normal.
