Chips that were painted over

My wife against my recommendations, decided to buy a 1997 Z3 that had some paint work done to it. There are several places on the front of the car where there were chips in the paint, and instead of fixing it correctly they painted over the chip!

Could I go about addressing these in a similar fashion to a regular chip. Sand, build up paint, wet sand, and polish? Has anyone ever run into anything like this before?

Thanks,

All depends on what is under the current chip repairs. If they were prep'd well enough then yes, but it's a gamble. Better off having a known good body shop give you a price and as they do, pick thier brain as to how they are going to resolve it. If it seems logical and easy, you could try it.

What the hell, you could try to repair yourself anyway, then go to the shop. It's all up to you and your wallet.
