I have been lurking here for while and decided it was time to join up. I have been doing a lot of research here and I want to get into detailing basically for myself or side jobs. To make a long story short. I had a guy detail my SSR. The woman I bought it from used some type of brillo pad and scratched the crap out of the front hood and side view mirrors trying to take bug marks out. I had a deal with the guy to do only the black part of the SSR where there are swirls and the fine scratches left from the woman trying to get the bug marks out. The silver was fine and didn't need any correction. The color combination of the SSR is Smokin Asphalt and Ricochet Silver two tone.
He was able to get the scratches out of the front hood nose. Atleast 95% of them. There are still just a few little fine scratches. He never did the rest of the black like he was suppose too. I noticed it later because he waxed or polished the black so it looked good. He cut corners to hide the rest with polish. I had my chat with him and showed my displeasure.
I bought a Makita 9227 and also a PC. I have quite a few polishes. Menzerna IP, SIP, 106FF, 85RD, Final, FP II, Klasse AIO adn High Gloss Sealant, Meguiar's 105, 83, Farecla G6 a lot of people seem to use around here and 3M Ultrafina SE. I have all kinds of pads LC 6.5" to 8" and a couple PFW and a blue Ultrafina 8" polishing pad. I even bought a 6" Farecla pad kit that comes with backing plate. There is a white pad and black with the kit. The white pad is stiffer than a white LC pad. I have 4" pads for the PC. Just need to get the adapter to use them on my rotary. I have pad conditioner, system 200 pad washer, microfiber towels of all kinds and applicators and a few little other things.
I hit the hood using my Makita rotary with SIP and a white LC pad. It sure seemed to polish up the hoood but couldn't get some fine scratches out. I tried an orange pad with no luck aswell as the PFW. I had little time lastnight so I was basically experimenting. I was thinking of trying Meg's 83 or Farecla G6 today or maybe even step up to 105 if the clear is really that hard. I was wondering if anyone has done an SSR and their experience with it and what possible polish I could try ?. Here is a couple crappy pic's I took lastnight. I'll take more when I get a chance. A before and after progress.
