Do chemical paint polishes like ColorX and PB's PP do anything on clearcoats that claying can't?

Yes. Chemical cleaners are much more effective and much faster than using clay to remove oxidation. That's the main purpose of paint cleaners, to remove oxidation. Some have abrasives in them as well, which can be used to remove swirls.
