Chemical Overspray or tiny particles???

Hi,

I'm a new detailer and I'm stationed in Asia, Singapore! I'm not highly skilled so I hope to get some really good advice!

I recently encountered a problem on a customers car. He works in a heavy industrial area and his paintwork felt rough, lots of tiny particles like tar or chemical overspray(I'm not sure)!

I washed then clayed the vehicle! The claying did remove some of the particles but not all! I used Meguiars body scrub and it removed even more of the particles! I had a deadline of 3hr plus to finish up this job so I had to proceed to AIO and SG the entire paintwork! The final result is that I removed 80-90% of the problem but the "smooth as glass" feeling was not on the entire vehicle! The top, bonnet and boot still feels slightly gritty!

Even though not very noticeable by my customer(he was pleased with the job), I wasn't entirely satisfied! I'm some sort of a perfectionist and I hope for some valuable advice to rid of this problem entirely! I told my customer that I'll need another session on his vehicle(i.e 2mths from now) Thanks!!!

Welcome to Autopia aojk! :welcome

For industrial fallout there is another product sold in the US that is just referred to as ABC. It's a three part system (A, B, and C) and is sold by Auto International www.autoint.com

I have never used it, but there is a TON of information here at Autopia about ABC. Try searching by title for it.

Anyone else want to take a stab at this? ;)

Thanks but I've got quite a bit of other products that I feel can already do a fine job! 1Z Ultra PP, 1Z PP, and metallic polish, meguiars diamond cut, dacp, SR 2.0, body scrub etc...

I was hoping for some techniques that I can pick up which can make my job easier. These particles looks like tar and can be scrap out with my fingernails, clay and polishing and bodyscrub did take out most of it but not all! Any more advice will be appreciated, thanks!

Maybe more time with the clay?

The A-B-C process should be given some consideration... Might be tough from your location...PM me if you have time, Ketch (from Automotive International) will get it to you, one way or the other.

Yes generally speaking "particles" and "grit" on paint is usually dealt with mostly with clay or ABC, not any of the polishes you have on hand to try and abrade or dissolve (probably won't work too well in this respect) them off.

What is this ABC system? I was thinking of getting 3M's tar remover, or Stoner's Tarminator! Or AutoGlym's tar remover! Any thought on this?

ABC is not the same as some tar removing solvent, but you could try a tar remover if that's what some of the particles may be. Please run a quick search for ABC in the Detailing Archives.

Mainly because I can't remember what ABC exactly is either! Lots of good info archived there though.

Thanks guys!!! All the info here has been great help! Next time, I'll try mineral spirits to try to get rid of these tars... great tip from DB! Thanks david!
