Chemical Guys Microfiber towels

If anyone has tried these towels, please let me know what you think. I've ordered some before and I was extremely disappointed with how thin/cheap they were.

My questions are:

1. The "Sasquatch" and "Shaggy Fur Ball" appear to be similar to the Eurow Shag weave. Are they similar and of the two, which one do you prefer?

2. The "Monster Microfiber Silk Banded" (blue w/black trim) and the "Microfiber Super Towel" (yellow w/black trim). What's the difference between these two and which one do you prefer? Is one thicker/more plush than the other? Would these compare the teal/green MF from Viking or the "Uber No Name" MF towels from Detailer's Domain.

Thanks for your input - I've got some Christmas cash that's burning a hole in my pocket. lol

How's it going, jb1? To partially answer your second question, I've tried the Monster mf towels and love them!! I use them for lsp removal, qd'ing and buffing. The one area where it stumbles a little is in the removal of paste waxes. I don't know if it's the knap that's too short or if maybe I applied the wax too thick, but I had a little bit of a hard time removing the wax with it. I had to hit the vehicle a second time just to ensure that all wax was gone. Other than that one incident, I've never had any problems with them. They're really nice towels.

I recently bought a 6-pack of the Shaggy Fur-balls and am dissapointed.

- they don't seem that absorbant (when using for waterless washes)

- they lint a bunch until your about 4-5 wash/dry down the road, and then still lint a bit.

I went directly to CG's customer service via email and Dee advised that I try the Monsters.

One thing to try before getting out the buffer is some 0000 steel wool. You can get it from Lowes in the paint section. I use 0000 steel wool and glass polish for when my windows get water spots I can't remove with my glass cleaner. Put a little glass polish on the window then rub it in with the steel wool.

good try... :beware

I love the monster towels and have bought several packs. They also had a great deal on extra large drying towels (gold color) which are great as well. They appear to be the same cobra towels Autogeek sells but could be mistaken.

I am impressed with CG stuff more and more. Just tried the Diablo wheel gel (very cost effective at 3:1 dilution), and wheel wax both of which work well.

I guess I'll try Pak Shak next.

I've been looking for a good, reasonably-priced MF source and have had hits n misses:

- from AutoGeek (while they were BOGO):

Cobra Supreme 530 are my best yet. Good for waterless wash & QD especially

Cobra Guzzler HD: they're not bad but definitely not worth the high price.

Cobra Indigo: I like these a lot and they didn't seem so pricey as the rest

- from Chemical Guys:

Shaggy Fur-ball: these were my only CG MFs and I haven't had the chance/need to try Dee's suggestion of the Monsters yet. They were cheap but they shed a lot and don't seem very absorbant when used with waterless wash.

- from Poorboy's World:

Deluxe Mega Towel (DMT): these feel really soft but I haven't gotten the chance to try them yet. Steve (@ Poorboy's) recommended these for use with their Spray & Wipe

Velvet Smooth Glass Towel: didn't get a chance to try these yet

- from Vroom:

Glass MF: I like this one but only had one, hence the subsequent PB glass MFs purchase

All purpose (don't know if they have a specific name): this one is nice but once again I only have one as it was part of a variety pack.

- from Costco:

super cheap big pack of yellow ones: these things shed so much you'll think your car is growing-in it's Winter coat. Strictly for door jams, interior stuff, and rims.

Gonna place another order with CG for more MF towels. Don't remember what

i have but they're all good. Love the Monsters. Wish they had a larger selection

of waffle weave towels...

So far, I'm not seeing any love for the Sasquatch or Shaggy Fur Ball. (rim shot)

Still don't see a clear cut winner between the blue and the yellow ones. I'll wait for more replies to see how these play out. Keep the feedback coming!

This kind of thing (repeated reports of weak products by a particular vendor) is worrisome. As a vendor looking to protect one's good name, it's in that vendor's best interest to carry products that perform well or at least as expected (albeit at varying levels of acceptable performance commensurate with the product's relative price point) within reason.

For example: as a side job/hobby I build custom poker tables and strictly stick to using quality plywood rather than cheaper, less well-suited materials such as MDF for any given table's main constituent.

I won't compromise my brand's good quality name to make an extra few bucks on cheapening materials and pushing sub-par tables; it's not worth it to me.

For the purposes of looking at this point via a larger, more real-world financial perspective, take Toyota/Lexus for example:

Both are made to provide different levels of luxury in an automobile, but both lines are quality through and through. Both effectively and reliably accomplish the main function it is that a car is supposed to accomplish.

Taking it back to the MFs:

- are different versions of fiber structures designed to perform different duties: yes.

- regardless of fiber structure/ intended use, should all MF not shed all over the finish it's intended to be used on: yes (therein lies the failure).

Just me, but if I decided to sell a product under my company's name, you can be damn sure I'm going to test it for a sufficient amount of time/trials before offering it to my trusting and loyal customer base.

I am a CG product line fan. But their MF towels are not top quality, at least not the ones I have tried. I have also ordered dosens of some of their less $$ towels for interior work and it was advertised as 16x16/ Turned out to be 14x14. After one wash I was done with them.

However their waxes, QDs and glazes are top notch. :xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs

I guess with towels it is harder to tell how they will work in the long run.

I really like their CW&G and CW&C but after getting "burned" ordering some of their microfibers before, I wanted some real world feedback. The word over-hyped keeps coming to mind regarding some of their descriptions.

Oh come on, CG's and overhyped are always in the same sentence. If you believed what they say (presuming you can understand the broken english) you'd think it was cold fusion in a bottle. If they have 5 chemicals in one category, each one is "the best". In another thread I was trying to make some sense of their wheel cleaners, to no avail.

lol; agreed.

I think they need to thin the lines a bit and consolidate here and there with product function overlap.

After that, a complete website overhaul (complete with thoroughly spell-checked/proofread content) is in order.

I have some of their products and am very happy with them, but there is room for improvement in their overall business model.

It's not on their website but I spoke to someone on the phone and ordered a gallon of their UltraMega Cold Fusion. Should be here in the next couple of days. :secret
