Check out this Detail Shop

Nice find!

I'd love to have those lifts!

Seems like they have some quality services and the attention to detail is definately stressed.

However, their website leaves something to be desired. But it looks like they're just getting started with it.

I'd check them out if I lived near by.

What are we looking for?

The attention to detail, lifts, lighting, organization, brochure and flyer, prep work before detail begins. I think most detailers do not provide this level of service.

The website could use a little more work.

Catch the pic with the guy using the PC? Cool. That's neat to know that we are using the same tool the a seemingly very professional and knowledgeable shop like this place. They might use a rotary as well, but that's cool they have the PC.

i think lighting is the single most important asset of a detail shop. if i ever open one of my own shops in the future i'll make sure to spend whatever amount of $$$ is needed on lighting :)

Well, I think that site is a great source of ideas for anyone looking to start their own retail business. They basically list all the services they can provide, as well as all the commercial partners they deal with (ex: collision shops, limo companies)

One thing I found interesting:

Our knowledge of wet sanding, overspray removal, and the art of polishing fresh paint guarantees your complete satisfaction in the finished product. The polishing system we use ensures paint the ability to complete its curing cycle without trapping evaporating solvents.

Any speculation on what this fresh paint polishing system is?

Anyone by chance use these guys. Spoke with Bruce and he was adamant about using non filler products at all.....

That would be cool, but unfortunately bling bling work doesn't pay the bills as well as regular reconditioning does. That shop is awesome though. Shops like this and Shineshop's really raise the bar in this industry.

What are you joking? Luxury, custom and classic cars is what its all about baby. That's where the money comes. Just ask anyone who does inside-outside "restorations" and they will tell you its money. "Top" detailers easily make $2-3K per Bling Bling. I've witnessed transactions like this and it is amazing, to me.

I am sure that there are some detail shops that do specialize in exotics, but most (probably over 99%) shops get the bulk of their income from reconditioning and detailing regular vehicles. I have never heard of anyone getting thousands of dollars to detail a vehicle though. Not saying that it is impossible, just saying that I have never heard anyone tell me that they can get that for a detail.

What do you mean by restoration anyways?

Restoration in this detailers terms = UNCONVENTIONAL

Basically this type can do more because of varying experience such as complete tear downs (engine, body and interior) anything mechanical, paint reconditioning which includes sanding, masterfull touch ups, and your everyday conventional buffing. Every job is different and calls for more aggressive steps and meeting customer demands. For example if a wood dash piece from an early model yea Aston Martin is gouged by a windshield repairmans razor, what do you do? You can't have a piece replaced. It isn't manufactured anymore. So instead you be resourcefull and sand the clea to as far as you get to the wood without touching the wood and begin to resurface the affected area with some clear. This can cost a person over $500.

Believe me there are people out there who want CRAZY stuff done to their cars. These types tend to stick with the person who can give that and are willing to pay the price, for heavy and time intensive (Sonetimes a couple weeks to a month straight of labor) detail jobs. Otherwise the regular interior exterior detail jobs pay about $175-$300. This is good if you work all day on 10 cars straight.

Personally I am a Real Estate Appraiser and I can do many little jobs that pay $100 for my time and research and work my *** off to make a few thousand a month. Or I can do a bigger more involved job like commercial properties/million dollar homes and make a whole hell of alot more cash in that 1 job than 10 small reports can pay me in the same amount of time. Its the big intensive work where all the money is. That is all I am saying

I recently corresponded with Bruce from Recondition USA and was quite impressed with his professionalism. A good example of this was the suicide clean up pics on his site. Check out the writing on the window stating that a biohazard exists and proper precautions must be taken before cleaning or entering the vehicle. We need more guys like this in the business.

suicide pics what happand in that fan ? yah i seen the bio hazard stuff on the window didnt look like anything happand inside of it though.

I think the sign may mean that it would be suicide to go inside w/o protection. :nixweiss
