hi

long time reader first time poster,

i scord a oates Enka - fill chamois im wondering tough its all got lint in it , i left it to soak over nite in lots of detergent and its clean as i got it but theres lint in it is that ok ? it feels quite rough due to these bumps caused in the lint

by the way this chamois is about 10 years old but it works so wonderful 1 stroke and removes all the water on a green car , not my car im just scared of swirling mine

p.s only making the thread due to dont want to swirl up the car due to just removed 90% of swirls

try a sweater shaver on it?

Sounds like you oughta CD-test your chamois. Get it good and wet then wring it out (I assume that's how you use it). Get a CD wet and dry the data side with the chamois, then inspect the CD for marring (I use incandescent light in an otherwise dark shop, and I like to use magnification too).

If it mars the CD I wouldn't touch my paint with it.

ok thanks

ive tryed a sweater shaver and no luck ,

i will try the CD test so do i push hard or just as if doing the panel?

'i just found a cd and did the CD test , it put a few scratches in , only a few when i went really hard and with my finger caused it, but apart from that no micro marring and swirling \r\n\r\nive also noticed some black spots\r\n\r\np.s only made this thread due to dont got cash to buy anther chamois and my current one is starting to wear thin and was only a $2 one'

I'd suggest that after ten years it's well past the time to replace it. I'd also suggest that you step up to waffle weave drying towels if you don't want swirls. Read up on the flooding method of flowing most of the water off the paint then blotting with WW MFs or using a leaf blower. No swirls that way.

I totally agree. Great advice.

While pressing hard will make for a more rigorous test, I believe in testing stuff the way it'll be used in the real world. I'd press a little harder than normal so you err on the side of caution.

A wet chamois sure shouldn't mar the CD.

But as mentioned...Waffle Weave MicroFiber drying towels are *so* much better you simply cannot imagine. I used chamois for years and years, and still have a few around here somewhere (John Bull brand IIRC) but I haven't even laid eyes on them for at least a decade. There are simply better drying media these days.
