So today I worked on an Acura TL that had been neglected (a lot). The hardest part for me is always the carpets. I tried APC at10:1 and 4:1 without the success I was aiming for. So which Meg's product is best for carpet cleaning?

APC

D102 l Purpose Carpet Cleaner Aerosol

Quik Out Carpet Cleaner Foam

I am also looking at the Spot Remover from Wolfgang

To be honest product has very little to do with getting the carpets clean. What machines do you have at your disposal? At the very minimum I would expect a Shop vac (5.5 HP or better) Any carpet cleaner you want to use and a nice stiff nylon scrub brush. If you have at least these tools at your disposal you shouldn't have much issues getting the carpet cleaned. An extractor is a huge bonus as well.

Folex, agitate extract,or Dri Wash n Guard Green ,agitate, extract. Dri Wash n Guard Green is better than Folex. I have tried both with various stains and the DWG Green out performs the Folex every time!

I was looking through the garage the other day and found a box of Kirby Carpet Shampoo Parts for my wife's vacuum. I dug through it and found this handy little tool. I used the cone looking attachment from my shop vac, wedged it in there and taped it up. When the shop vac is on there is this little brush in the middle that spins. It did a great job on an old suburban that was trashed in the cargo area. I sprayed some Megs Super Degreaser on the bad spots and then the whole thing with Woolite 10:1. I would have liked some better results but it was bad and this was after about 10 minutes.

I was quite impressed with the little tool. The only complaint I had was it gunked up quickly. The spinning attachment did get a rock in it once and stopped working. Because there are no electric parts in it I just washed it and started using it again.

I disagree with that first part.

I cleaned carpets for a few years. Apartment complexes for the most part...the really bad stuff, daily.

The chemical you use can make a job easy/fast or slow going/no results.

I do think that using a hot water extractor is very beneficial as well. But chemicals are the primary "tool" when cleaning carpets.

I would like to know if anyone's used those hook and loop brushes that attach to a rotary/da and what results they got.

As mentioned Folex is a good product, I will have to try out the Dri Wash though. I use Folex right now for spot removal. Saturate and come back in 15 min to scrub and then wipe with a towel and vaccum. To clean the carpets I use ZEP High Traffic Cleaner and it works great. Plus if there are smells in the carpets this helps out too. Those two products can be bought at Home Depot.

I used the PC and the brush attachments (Joshvette's PC and brushes) and I was astonished at how well it worked. I used my chemicals and his machine and was blown away. I recommend using the pc w/ brushes if you have one.

the trick to carpets is attacking them dry! your main goal should be to raise as much dirt from the bottom to the surface although there are various ways to do this. what i do is first ill attack the carpet with a brush. in a circular motion rub all the carpeted area! this will loosen the debree. next take an airline with a blower attachment and use compressed air to bringthe loose dirt to the top. then vacuum using what ever vacuum you have at your disposal. at this point all loose dirt and debree will be out of the car! at this point you will be surprised by what the carpets look like! if done right you'll be amazed. next pretreat any stains with an all purpose cleaner or degreaser. then scrub the carpets and vacuum. put in your air mover and let them dry! good luck!

My favorite combo is to vacuum thoroughly. I then take a stiff brush and brush the fibers in the carpet and re-vacuum. I then spray liberally with folex and allow to sit for about a minute and then I scrub it in and allow it to sit again for roughly a minute. I then spray ZEP carpet cleaner on and scrub in and allow to sit for another minute. I then extract with my Mytee extractor. I then allow to fully dry, re-vacuum once again and then 'groom' the carpeting. Here are some results from a Ford F-150 that I recently completed an interior detail on...

IMO having a good HWE is a must for very dirty carpets. The chemical used is only part of the cleaning equation. I just did a very dirty car the other day, with lots of mud ground into the carpets. Without my HWE I never would have been able to achieve the results I got in a reasonable time frame.
