Carpet dying kit: hot or cold dye?

I'm close to purchasing a kit, but am not clear if it's worth purchasing one with an inline heater. The heated version is 4 times the cost of the non-heated kit. Is it worth it?

Justifying the purchase cost of equipment is accomplished by analyzing the anticipated volume of usage.

In my shop, we just don't have much call...

That article was probably written by Bud Abrahams, who sells the heated dye kit.

In point of fact the article was written by me. There are several options available but if I had it to do over again I would be buying a heated kit such as the kit sold by Bud. I am not biased between one kit or the other but do have experience using both. For a casual user the cheaper, non heated kits are a good fit but they are somewhat limiting. The advantage of the heated kit is that the dyes are all kept seperate and premixed and can be heated as needed as you apply them. The other kits are mixed with hot water and once you initially mix the dye, it must be re-heated somehow if you intend to re-use the remaing dye. It may be more expensive but in this case I believe the added expense is justified for the detail plus system.
