Car Wax etc for the complete non-enthusiast

On of my coworkers friends got a new car. My coworker wanted to get him some carwax. Knowing I keep up with detailing he asked me what he should get his friend.

Now I know the friend, he is the most non everything. He won't put one coats of AIO, (which is the simplest thing I got).

I finally said, just get him some Maguires Gold Class Shampoo. haha, so if I were to recommend something over the counter, what should I say? BM Semi-Gloss Dashboard Protectant is my other answer :D

Remember the coworker wants to buy over the internet about as much as the friend will use Klasse :) Thanks, Steve

Meguiar's Gold Class is pretty good for the non-enthusiast, its just that it'll wear off quickly. Meguiar's #26 and Mother's Step 3 are both excellent, except he/she will need to buy a paint cleanser. (Maybe Mothers or Meguiars Step 1)

I would recommend him/her to go and buy a gigantic bath towel, and cut it into fours, and find some way to serge/sew it so it wont fall apart. And some foam applicators would be useful.

Mothers California Gold Caranuba Paste Wax is a pretty good product. It is not a cleaner wax though. It comes in a big red tin (12 oz) and you can get it at PepBoys for around $10-$13. It lasts about 3 weeks, at least it did for me.

Buy him some Meguiars Quick Wax(not the Quick Detail stuff). Spray on, wipe off. It is less than 5 dollars a bottle.

Definitely a polymer based product, since it likely wont get the upkeep needed for a carnauba. Personally I'd recommend NuFinish given this situation.

NuFinish is a lot of work to buff off. Especially if you let it dry to long. Definitely not for this guy. :)

Actually, he could use the Meguiar's Deep Crystal System to get some decent (albeit temporary) results. In fact, I still have Deep Crystal Cleaner, #9 Swirl Remover, and #26 Wax. They just don't get used on the Maxima. :D

Mothers car wash and cleaner wax. Mothers three step program is great but a lot of work for him. I would just go with the cleaner wax. Cotton towels. But i would higly sgest to him a bottle of AIO which is the same amount of work just with better results.

why exactly aren't you gonna recommend him Klasse? just because of the price? or is there that much more work involved in doing the AIO/SG combo?

i did the meguiare's three step for my car recently, took quite a while, as well, the results were't that spectacular... maybe it's just me?

I think his best bet is a bottle of Klasse AIO, cuz ounce for ounce its the best bang for his buck in terms of shine and protection.

Otherwise Meguiar's Gold Class is a decent product, but i still think the Klasse is his best bet.

I would say to get the Meguair's Cleaner/Wax.

I would not suggest a non cleaner wax, because I'm sure he won't wax often and when he does, he would need something that can clean and wax.

I also just got done with the Maguiars swirl remover, polish and wax. It took about 7 hours to get it to a 'decent' point (still swirls after 3 coats). I am just using up the last of it to switch to Klasse or Zaino next spring.

I would not recommend this route (Meguairs 3 step) to someone that is not that great about upkeep..For the hours it takes to get results, you can do the car with Klass or Zaino and be much better off.
