Car Washer Convert

Hello from Alamogordo NM. I purchased a car wash business from a bud bout a year ago. There is a demand for mobile detailing so I'm trying to learn and provide. I'm originally from GA and not used to the prices people are willing to pay here. People turn their noses up to a $25 car wash so they darn near cry when I tell them $125 for a detail. This is just a part time deal. I am a firefighter in the Air Force full time. Business is busy enough lately to make it full-time. I'm really interested in advice in making this a real business (the kind where I don't have to do all the work). I have a couple "fair weather" helpers now but am trying to find some full time folks. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you are on the right track. The best way to make it a business that you can run without being actively involved in the labor, is to keep the services simple.

You can expect employees to do a decent $25 wash or a decent $125 detail. I would pay them commission per job. This keeps them motivated to work fast, then it's just a matter of quality control.

That doesn't look like a very affluent community to me though so I'm surprised they think those prices are super cheap.:hmmm:

As far as drumming up business there are a bunch of marketing techniques on here you can look at. I don't have anything new to tell you there.
