Car Wash Shampoo Recommendation

I have never seen these in action. I turned the PC on, and I dont exactly know how exactly should the pad move on it? Is it supposed to make a swirling action, or does it just rotate?

thanks,

spiro

Kind of a wobbly rotation in free air.

Put your hand on it at low speeds and feel it.

The axis of rotation is off center with the pad so it kind does little figure 8's.

If you put your hand on the pad, it really just feel like it's vibrating back and forth. In reality, it is moving randomly within a circle. Hence the name, random orbit. :up

Cool..thanks guys, this is exactly what its doing. I just wanted to make sure I didnt have a defective product.

thanks,

spiro

Yeah. I bought the kit from CMA, with some extras.

<strong class='bbc'>It's not defective, just alot easier and safer to use than a polisher that rotates in a circle.

Did you get a set of pads with it? [/b]</blockquote>

Spiroh,

I'm right behind you...my PC and pads should arrive early next week. This black Acura took a beating this winter and Acura paint...well, I'll hold my tongue!

Good luck Spiroh. As a fellow Acura owner, our paint leaves much to be desired.

But when I finished with my PC and 3M SMR, I was sooo happy. My car's paint feels like a sheet of glass now. :D

Its good to see members from the CL and TL boards here.

Yup, this is the only place I go for car care advice. These guys/girls know their stuff.

They sure do. I've been a member here for quite some time :)

Hopefully soon. This is ridiculous. One day its 60 out, and the other day is 20, with mad snow. Gotta Love Chi-Town :)

I'm looking to pick up some new car wash shampoo and am looking for some recommendations. My goal is a maintenance shampoo. I am not looking for something to strip wax or sealant (I use Dawn for that).

I don't have foam gun. I just use the typical two bucket method with a sheepskin mitt.

I currently have been using Sonus Gloss Shampoo and have been very happy with it. I haven't really heard anyone on TID discuss the Sonus line much. It suds up nice, cleans very well, and doesn't strip my sealant. I know there are many other options out there.

I typically use BFWD or Zaino Z5/Z2 as a sealant. My goal is to find a shampoo that is gentle, suds up nice, is easy on soft Honda/Acura paint, and doesn't strip the LSP.

These are some wash products I have used and my opinion:

Zaino Z7 - cleans great, but is a bit too strong. May be OK with Zaino, but likely too aggressive for use with BFWD.

Mothers California Gold - not impressed.

ONR - OK for a quick winter wash, but doesn't clean as well as I would like. I prefer suds from a shampoo.

Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax (G17748) - nice product, but does this add a wax product?

Sonus Gloss Shampoo - my go-to shampoo.

I have done some searching and am thinking of trying Eimann Fabrik, Meg Gold Class, or maybe Dodo Juice?

Any recommendations for my wash method/situation/goals?

Thanks!

Bill

I have used and liked Mother California Gold, Ultima, super slick in suds, P21S body work shampoo and most recently Lusso on reccomendation from a pro on this board. I have not had any strip wax or sealant when mixed correctly.

All the above provide lubricity, and soil removal (not grease removal) you said maintenance wash right.

Good luck. FWIW, the process is much more important than the product. All the washes mentioned above, plus a whole lot more will get you there. You don't need to spend alot of money. I would invest a few dollars you save in the PH strips to prove to your self that it is neutral. You will be able to feel the lubricity and see cleaning ability. PH plus lubricity and cleaning ability along with an easy rinse are all you need.

I am a huge fan of Optimum Car Wash. It has great foaming and great lubricity. It also smells great!!!

As Jeff said above, the process is just as, if not more important then the shampoo itself. Use 2 buckets with Grit Guards, and be careful with your wash media. Make sure it is clean and will not induce any scratches. You know the rest of the process.

I have used allot of different Shampoos, from DoDo Juice, Born to be Mild, Sour Power, Basics of Bling, DP, Wolfgang you name it....the 2 that I always go back to is: Megs Gold Class and ONR.....
