Car shows people dress their treads as well as the sidewalls why???

I would think dressing you treads on your tires would cause you to have major tire spinage??? Do you think judges like seeing that kind of thing? It looks like they took there tires and french dipped them in a bucket of grease:)
 
Yes, it is a nice thing for the judges to see. And yes, it can cause traction problems, especially on wet roads. The judges might think that the tires aren't clean if they aren't shining like the sidewalls. I think car shows have gotten farther away from taste and moved more towards the "bling" factor and I don't like it at all.
 
I guess it depends what kind of car show you're attending. If we're talking about the local show in a church parking lot, it isn't worth the time/effort to dress the treads.

At bigger shows, though, I've seen people actually jack the wheel up, dress ALL sides of the tire and treads, make sure any logos on the wheels are perfectly straight and line up exactly, and put the car back down. They just clean off the treads with some APC before leaving the show.
 
I dress the treads all the time, it just looks neater. Seeing the sidewalls dressed and plain treads just looks sloppy. I've NEVER had traction problems though. The car will have been sitting all day so the dressing is quite dry, no problems at all.
 
I think the whole dressing of the tread is just plain stupid.. Shiney tires shouldn't matter in a car show. the quality of the build up is what should be judged not the tires.

The type of shows that i go to though, you don't really see the treads lol.

Heres a sweet blazer thats body dropped on 22's, can't even see the treads :D

i have a lifted truck that i show, so i dress the treads of my tires. i only use son of a gun tire foam on them because it doesn't leave them greasy or slippery. at the shows i go to it always ends with alittle burnout anyway.
 
TrueDetailer... you're right, shiny tires or treads don't matter to the judges, they look beyond that usually. But there are more than just judges, there are the spectators and the idea is to put your best foot forward and make your car look iit's best. So people usually either don't use tire shine at all or do the sidewalls and treads to make a more complete look.

yeah i agree, if i have a car sitting in one place for awhile, i always dress the tread. It just gives a litttle extra and makes the tire shine look more even.
 
I do it at shows because dressed sidewalls and tread look great. Having dusty tread and nice black sidwalls draws attention away from the car.

I use a tire swipe and just reach in and wipe them down. I also use a tire swipe on the inside of the wheel well so they are as black and wet as the tires are. Not practical for a weekly detail step, but for a car show sometimes you do things like that.

What brand tire dressing is that? BnB?
 
Nope. Eagle One Wet. It is the only OTC tire shine I've used so far that isn't A) ghetto glossy, or B) sling city. That and it lasts a good two weeks in dry weather before they start to look like they need refreshing. Usually the wheels look worse than the tires by that time and it is time for a wash anyway.
 
I also have a lifted truck that i show and I also treat the tread area. Mainly because it gives the truck a better overall appearance. As for being slippery. Not going to happen the first two revolutions of the tires pretty much wears it off. I have been using No Touch tire foam for this but that stuff flies every where so I took advantage of that Meg's offer a while back and tried the Hot Shine Foam since i already use the Hot Shine Aerosol spray and it like the Hot Shine foam much better. Seem to use less product and doesn't go all over the place like the No Touch or Armour All.

Someone above mentioned something about show seem to be going more for bling factor than the overall quality and that is something i also have noticed and it really is a shame. I have seen perfectly stock vehicle other than having some big Ole stereo system win First place. Seem like lots of shows simply want a vehicle with big wheel and a stereo.
