Car show shine not worrying much about protection?

What would be some products to get a really wet jaw dropping appearance. Not so worried about protection and I've got the polishing prep work done. I'm thinking a glaze like Vanilla Moose and then some #81 hand polish. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks:xyxthumbs

VM and Souveran. Used it on the that Rolls Royce Phantom I detail. Insanely wet looking. Too bad the owner is out of town and while I had his garage door opener, no keys to move the car out and get real good pics.

I am sorry, what is VM?

If your paint is in great shape, you can try Meguiar's #7 (Show Car Glaze). I tried that and some folks at our concours thought I had applied a dozen coats of Zaino. But if you want to try #7, be sure and read Mike Phillips' tips in the Hall of Fame. I didn't have any problems when I tried it as a newbie, but apparently, some folks do.

Lynn-a more user friendly alternative to #7 is #81 Hand Polish but that is something you would have to order or buy through a professional product distributer. Both products look truly excellent, but #81 is far easier to use.

I have both, so when would #7 be better to use than #81? Just wondering if I should donate my #7 to a friend.

#7 on single stage paints (which is all there were when it came out about 70 years ago) and #81 on clear coats.

Good tip, Scottwax. I think I'd seen that comment before, but somehow it slipped my mind. I'll have to look for some #81. Sometimes, when I don't have time to do the full sealant routine, I just grab Megs glaze for a concours. Sounds like I need to make the switch to #81.

Once a painter friend of mine told me to add some #7 to your wash to get a nice shine if you don't have time to detail your car.

It really works!

I think I'm gonna use some VM + #81+ some Trade Secret which I'm anxiously awaiting. I'll let you know how it turns out should have everything done by this Saturday! Thanks for all the help but keep goin with the combos so I have somethin to experiment with next time!

Has anyone else done this and what did you think of the results?

I have added some Griot's Best of Show Wax to my wash before. It helped a bit but the wax gets everywhere and when it dries you have to get it out of the cracks.

I have done #7 in my car wash soap many times and it does make a difference as far a shine is concerned. And no issues with wiping. I guess that is why I was recommended a glaze.

Hope this helps.

Does the #81 have any cleaning ability? It sounds like it does but I have a hunch that it does not.

Most people for show cars around here use Meguiars # 7 or 3M Imperial hand glaze, No wax. I work part time for a high line restoration shop and they use 3M High Gloss Paste Wax on most cars that they do especially black. I guess its what works for you.

Interesting. Does it make any difference as to what soap that is being used (I'm using NXT now) and how much do you add to a coiple gallons of soap? Might have to give that a try next time.:xyxthumbs
