Car Crazy!!!!! Puerto Rico.

This is my first post here so give me just a little slack.



But, anyway I have a brand new '02 Corvette Z06 Torch Red. But, either the dealer or came from the factory with some scratches. They are very fine from looks like someone rubbing up against the car with dirty pants. The scratches are hard to see with the garage door up with no direct light shinning on the car, but when I close the door and shine my 1200 Watt Halogen lights on the side of the car they become visible really quick. You can also see them in the sunlight when looking at the car from certain angles.



I need suggestions on how to remove them. I just bought a PC, but have never used it before on anything.



Should I use the PC or hand polish them out? What products should I use? I see some post around 3M SMR #39009 and Meguiars #9 2.0 SMR. Which one is better and a finer abrasive?



Also, I have heard that the clear coat on the Vette is very thin and soft, is this true and can I damage it with the PC?



Ok, enough said I think you catch the drift. I need your help and suggestions.

I would go with Meguiars first. It is not as abrasive as the 3M product. I would use this product with your Porter Cable machine. Saves ALOT of time.



The clear coat on ALL cars is thin and easy to damage, the Porter Cable is designed to be fairly easy on clear coats but you can still mess it up is you use a polish over and over again or if you let the Porter Cable sit on your paint in one spot for 3 hours. Just use it with common sense and the least abrasive product and your a-ok.



If you want the fastest and least abrasive way out of this, try a layer of Meguairs glaze and then a layer of wax. That will hide very small swirls for a few weeks. No need to polish more than once or twice a year so I would just wait if you can hold off. The glaze is awesome anyway.

Welcome to the forum.



I suggest a quick search on swirls. There are many threads on this subject and they talk about different products and techniques.



Always start with the least abrasive product.



I believe #7 is a glaze and will not remove the swirls but hides them temporarily.



The e-book will explain a lot and there is even a video clip (link on here somewhere) which show DavidB using the PC and he gives great tips on how to use it.

Glaze will NOT remove swirls. I am thinking he can hide them for a month at a time and get a wicked nice shine until he uses a polish on his car to fix them for good. No need to polish every time you get a few tiny swirls.



Yes, number 7 Meguiars Glaze.

If you want to remove the swirls for good the white pad with 3M Swirl Mark Remover (part number 39009) will do the trick.
