Canadian Towel Group Buy - Paksak or JTintern - who's interested

After a bunch of my friends saw my JTintern. towels this weekend, everyone seems to want them (especially wives). To split the high shipping costs from the US, I was thinking of setting a group buy for us. Shipping inside Canada would be minimal considering the the packages would not weight much.

If you interested, I haven't made my mind up on either Paksak or JT... post your preference and how many you are interested in and I'll see if I can get a group rate as I'll be ordering over 100+ towels for the my portion alone.

Deadline for the order will be: August 23 (Friday), 2002.

Thanks,

Paco

Ok, you have my attention. :) I've got MFs already but...

I did some reading and I can't really say which is better quality-wise, but the only advantage Pakshak seems to have is that the towels come with the tags removed.

My vote is for JT International. According to HellrotCi he shipped USPS - big advantage for us here. :up Also, he offers a much bigger variety of towel types than Pakshak. It took me a while, but I knew there was this thread somewhere that showed the variety he had:

Note the MF mitts at the bottom too!

Only shipping will be different with JT. The only price drop he would do was over 100 towels. He said "no goup buys" to me...

good luck

Tell him some people won't ever be buying without the GB.... because I won't :p

Or maybe don't tell him about the GB....:o

My vote goes with Pakshak on account of the no tags.

How much would the various towels cost? I would want some in either case, but a friend on a tight budget might want some too.

Why is the brokerage high if USPS is used? I can understand that shipping won't be cheap. I don't think we really need next day or overnight.;)

I looked at JT's page on ebay and it says he will only ship within the USA. How do you plan on getting the towels up here if you go with him?

I got 25 16x16" terry towels and a waffle weave (24x26" I think) for $2 a piece for the terrys and $7 for the WW (all US$ of course). Shipping was $11 US with UPS and $13.40 or something by USPS, so I went UPS.

The package only weighed a pound with the cardboard box...so I guess most of it was brokerage. :nixweiss

JT ships to Canada. I think Pakshak is the one which said Continental US and Hawaii only.

I informed of that and he may have started shipping USPS which doesn't have a brokerage associated with it.

I am not sure how Pakshak is shipping. I'll be emailing both of them tonight.

Actually when I receive stuff from the U.S. that is shipped by USPS, there is often (but not always) a $5.00 + taxes brokerage fee charged by Canada Post. Much better than what UPS (pronounced oops) charges at the door (I've been charged $30.00 + taxes).

Maybe we should get some of those mint green towels from JT at deep a discounted price, as mentioned in the post about the melted corners.

That's not brokerage. It's standard on ALL stuff entering Canada, including UPS, FedEx, etc, etc. The $5 is for the customs people, and the tax (fedral + provincial) just sucks! :p

If you'd like to read about this, it's on a government page somewhere.

Email me if your interested and how many of each size you are interested in to pacobbs@rogers.com. The deadline has moved up to ensure prompt decision making and delivery to August 19th, 2002 (Monday by midnight).

Here's how we could apply the saving on the group buy:

The shipping / brokerage can be split in 2 ways:

1. on a percentage basis of the order i.e. 100 towels ordered -if you order 10 then 10% of the brokerage and shipping

2. By the number of people involved i.e. 10 people we divided the shipping / brokerage cost by 10? What do you think?

“Micro-touch tagged 70/30

16x16 inch soft, plush terry towel 2.00 dk green, blue (slight saving if I can get enough ordered)

16x16 inch soft, plush terry towel "fraying issue" mint green - price provided in my follow-up email

Standard Prices for the following:

16x36 inch soft,plush terry towel 4.75 blue

“Ultrafine tagged 70/30

Thanks,

I bet we'll just end up splitting it by percentage, since some people are obviously going to order more than others. But if the majority just say "split it", that would probably be fine with me (what, like a few dollars diff?).

Roughly how big a savings would there be if we got a large number of 16x16 Microtouches? I'm just wondering because everyone who's had both say the 15x15 Ultrafines are plusher, so I was going to order only those...

So, is anything happening with the group towel buy?

Paco, I hope you got my PM and thanks again for organizing the previous group buy.
