Hey all,

Just signed up to this awesome website. Looking for the best info I can on keeping a car looking clean! I just recently purchased a 2002 1.8T indigo blue GTI. My first car and want to keep it looking sweet. A couple of weeks ago, someone decided to christen my new ride by leaving a big scratch mark on my rear bumper - I was victim of a hit & run in a parking lot. I was gone 10 minutes and came back to horrible looking scartch marks   Anyways, being new to the whole car detailing thing, what would you more experienced types recommend to use to rid myself of these scratches?. Up here in Toronto, I've yet to find some of the quality products available in the States. Any other Toronto autopia members here now of some good stores to buy quality car care products?

Thanks to all for any info provided!!!:up :up

Hey there, welcome to the site!

As you will notice if you follow the link in my sig, I also drive a 1.8t GTI. :D So we also have that in common!

As far as detailing products, you might find that Meguiar's products are easier to locate in Canada. I am in contact with a distributor and would be able to get you a lot of their stuff through the mail if you can't find what you need at Canadian Tire. You can send me a PM if interested.

Speaking of which, how bad is that scratch? If it's down to metal, you're SOL my friend... needs paint! If not, you might want to give Meguiar's Scratch-X a shot. I've used it before and it does work very well.

There's a wealth of info hidden in the forums archive as well, hit the search feature to find what you need.

Regards,

Zaino - Barber's Chair (Erin Mills Town Centre and Square One)

303 - Zeller's

Meguiar's - Cmax

3M - Cmax

S100 - Harley Davidson on Front St.

We still haven't found a Klasse dealer locally.

JTinter. ships quality Microfiber Towels. If I can ever get my butt around to it, I'll look into setting a Group Buy as many of friends want some but would like to split the shipping/duties. Paksak is also good but I haven't ordered from him yet.

Key Search items for you:

Wash method - 2 bucket

Claying

Polishing

Sealants: Zaino, Blackfire, Klasse

Waxes: Meguiars No. 26, S100, P21S, Pinnacle

Download DavidB. ebook on this site and then pay to have the full copy.

Get a porter cable dual action polisher.... Do a search.

There's plenty more.. but I'm at work now.

I too have found Scratch-X to be a "wonder-drug" for not-too-bad scratches (i.e., ones you can see, but can't feel with a fingernail). I've just wiped it on by hand, and buffed off ... then fell down in a faint at the results.

Welcome, from the other coast! :wavey

A great way to get going is to read the eBook first, then start milking the Search feature to answer any questions that come up or get info on specific products.

Prepare for the Money Pit! :D
