it seems alot of companies who sell mf, usually all get them from the same place and then re-badge them to their own. :geez

You'd be surprised to see that it doesn't stop at just towels :getdown .

Miami_vice: Please PM me if you have more specifics. I am, by no means, a "know-it-all" in this area, but there are logical conclusions you can draw once you get some raw facts and after objective observations.

seems to me like:

gallon sizes: Chemical Guys

small sizes: Poorboys

Hmm???

But then again, what do I know? I'm just an amateur...

That's nothing new and I personally have no problem with that. It's only when one store sells it for a lot more than others that I don't like it.

I bet that if this thread were to be put on detailCity some one would delete it. I feel that We as consumers need to adress these issues. Detailing is more expensive than any of my hobbies.

A lot of various brands of golf balls are all the same. I think there are only 5 factories in the whole world that make all the golf balls or something like that. The Lexus ES300 is the same car as the Toyota Camry. Re-packaging is something quite common in many, many industries and allows companies to take advantage of not only economies of scale but also to target different markets using different packaging and brand images. I would hardly call it an underhanded or devious practice.

I don't think we need to reopen this can of worms, again. :geez

Difference here is that you are informed or can read and be informed. Where can you find and KNOW that product A is even similar to product B let alone the same. I'll say that there are some out there and that's it. :dance

I have to disagree with you to some extent. The only reason why people know really is because someone found out and told everyone basically. Toyota for example does not advertise or inform the public in any way that they own the Lexus brand. Until recently, I would say they went above and beyond to conceal that fact by extensively redesigning the exterior. In fact, I know many people who are not "car people" who still have no idea that Lexus is a sub-brand of Toyota or the Infiniti and Acura are sub-brands of Nissan and Honda respectively.

Yeah, but that's because they didn't choose to read and be informed. It's the same as you being here to learn about the various products. When someone goes out and make a major purchase such as a car and doesn't choose to learn more about what they're buying they take the chance on becoming a victim. With cars, you can do the research however with polish/wax etc. you have to rely on speculation.

Yeah, but I blame that on the fact that there is a smaller population of people who are interested in knowing about detailing as compared to people who are interested in knowing about cars.

but one also has to remember that just because it looks the same and smells the same doesn't mean that 2 items have the same ingredients or percentages of ingredients

Your kidding right? Toyota is very proud to be the owner of Lexus and in fact early Lexus models had Toyota etched into all the glass.

Now lets all step back to when Saturn came out and GM flat out refused to acknowledge that they were the financial and engineering backer for them. Now that was a ruse!

Yes there is a lot of rebranding out there. I just watched a show called "Why Wlamrt is bad for the economy". In that show one fo the segments was a Chinese TV manufacturer that made TV's for no less than 7 brands we find in the US. All the same guts, just different boxes, stickers, and prices.

Many companies rebrand thier own stuff. It's up to the consumer to make a determination as to what is what. I'm sure there are microfibers that are rebranded and sold at a higher price. There are probably waxes, polishes, and even rubber bands that are rebranded. It's not a conspirecy, it's just business. As a consumer we all need to open our eyes and realize that just becaue it's not a name brand, doesn't mean that it might not be a high quality item.

We all need to find the similar or comparable products and let our fellow Autopians know. As posted earlier, this hobby can get pretty expensive. If I can save a few bucks and buy 24 MFs at Sams Club for $9 I'm going to do it.

Lets not all lose our marbles over this... if you do you'll end up wearing one of these
