I need to make 2 accounts (one for sis, one for mom) on the family computer. My sister and mom dont like the same music, but both have ipods. They cant use the same itunes b/c they dont want each others music on their ipods. Can I get around this?

You dont have to automatically send the entire list to the iPod. You can manually select which songs you want to send the iPod. It should also detect which iPod is on there.

Brandon1,

You can have multiple libraries in Itunes. Hold the shift button down while starting up Itunes. It will ask you which library to use and offer to create a new library. Then each user can associate their Ipod with their library keeping each others music separate. This is for a PC. For an Apple you press another button (Control?), but I don't use Apple computers.

Hope this helps. :)

On a MAC it is the 'option' key. Go to the "help" screen, and search for "two libraries." Lots of info on this in there on how to work it and use it....

You have the ability to log in as another user as well. It will open up a different desk top and you can load your moms iTunes songs on one log in and your sisters iTune songs on another log in. I had to do this on our last computer and still need to do it on the laptop we have now.

Thanks CkretAjint,

I'm going to have to pick up a Mac one of these days. Can't say that I've ever touched one.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if there is a way to use your ipod on someone elses PC to get their songs? I am sure there is a hack for it somewhere. I only just got my IPOD a few months ago and now my GF wants one. Between ours and other people in the family, I want to be able to just dload songs from their playlists. Anyone have any advice?

I use Sharepod and its been great. I never use Itunes at all anymore. It runs off the Ipods HD so you dont have to install it on anyones computer.

So you just dload it off the net? So if I wanted to plug my IPOD into my GF PC and dload her songs from her library, sharepid will let me do that without screwing anything up?

Where do you get new tunes if you don't use ITUNES?

Good looking out!

Have your friend burn MP3 / Cds from their library and upload it to your computer... then you have back ups as well :xyxthumbs

On my MAC I use Senuti. It is free, but I do not think they make a PC version. It allows you to DL songs from your iPod to your HD (reverses the flow of information). Other then that, just manually manage your songs, and you can DL songs from any persons computer to your iPod. Atleast thats how it works for me.

Heres a link to Sharepod. SharePod

Heres a comparison of Ipod managers. Comparison of iPod Managers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I get my MP'z on Usenet and generally you can find albums before they're released in the store.
