Crimson,

How would you explain your reasoning to a prospective client for offering three different packages?

Well, some people do not want a full detail everytime they have their car washed. For instance, if I obtain a client that brings their car in solely to me, he may not want a $150 detail job everytime. Most people will only jump for the full detail once or twice a year, but for the rest of the year they will still want their car maintained...hence the basic wash and so forth.

TPGSR, that is a great site, very usefull :xyxthumbs

You should include vacuuming and wiping down the dash and console in your basic wash package. Most people will be upset if you wash the outside and don't touch the inside.

I charge $25-35 for an exterior wash and vacuuming the interior. That also includes dressing the tires and fenderwells and cleaning the glass inside and out (btw, exterior wash does include door jams, trunk channels and gas cap area...which should automatically be part of any wash package).

Exterior details begin at $65 (same as above) for a two step paint process. Light claying is included as needed. Heavy swirls, overspray, scuffs, scratches, etc are more. I charge $100 for full sized SUVs.

Full details start at $100 (like a Miata) and go up from there. All of the above plus full interior cleaning and protecting. As with above, paint or interiors in poor condition will cost more.

I would not say that a detail will cost $XXX. You want to say for that sized vehicle, details begin at $XXX. Do not give a firm price until you see the actual vehicle or you may get a very unhappy suprise by some chain smoking soccer mom with 5 kids and 2 long haired dogs who go everywhere with them.

You might want to check around in your area to see what other shops are charging. Rule number one, do not compete on price. Do not be the lowest in town. If you price yourself towards the high end you eliminate the bargain hunters with crappy cars and no loyalty and for those with high end cars, a higher (without being obnoxiously high) price signals quality and exclusivity.
