I have some major water etching marks on my hood, roof and trunklid...ive tried everything...but they still wont go away...ther are no swirls...but there are so many etch marks that all the horizontal surafces are not shinning like they are suppsed to..

So again, my question is, has anyone here tried to wetsand Single stage paint? If so is there anything in particular I should do/know. Ive wetsanded BC/CC paint before plenty of times, just never single stage.

So if anyone has n e advice, id appreciate it

thanks

Wetsanding was common practice for many decades before clearcoats were. Not only can you wetsand ss finishes but they tend to be easier to deal with (but no guarantees).

Any time you wetsand you need to be careful about how much film you remove. If the finish is an old ss and has been sanded or buffed before it may be very thin. Proceed with caution on an old finish.

PC.

Note that all ss paint is *NOT* the same...some enamels don't take kindly to wetsanding; once you break the build-film of the paint it's just never the same. Ditto for many ss metallics and ss metallic enamel can be the worst of both worlds when it comes to this. So try a small area and be careful.

I'd use the finest paper that'll do the job. 3K polishes out nicely without a rotary. I'd use *ONLY* the Meguir's Unigrit paper, it really is that much better than stuff like the 3M.

I actually wetsanded with 2k sandpaperon a test spot, didnt notice much of a difference since the paint is literally beyond repair on the horizontal surfaces..oh well...

I thought I was gonna have to wetsand this one....
