Can i use Dual Action 6.5" Light Cutting Orange Pad (I am assuimg LC) with 3m Perfect It Rubbing Compound (Grade 6 -Medium Cut) to remove water etching? I want to know if this will work or should i wait for a yellow foam pad?

Also should i use AIO instead of 3m?

I wouldn't use that RC by PC. I haven't tried that one, but tyhe name "Medium Cut" sounds like it's not too different from the PI-III Extra Cut (05936) that I've used and that stuff is absolutely rotary-only. Used by PC, harsh compounds like these instill not-so-micro marring that you won't be able to polish out. Products like this need speed/heat to break down properly and only a rotary will provide that.

Sometimes stuff like this is even trickier than wetsanding! At least 3K sanding scratches can come out by PC, which is more than you can say for the hazing from some compounds.

Harshest 3M stuff I'd use by PC is probably PI-II FCRC (39002 in the 16 oz size). I prefer the PI-III RC (05933) but it's getting hard to find. With a 4" cutting pad and speed 6, this is about as aggressive as I'd want the PC to be; if that won't do it you really oughta step up to a rotary IMO.

FWIW, some etching isn't safe to take out even with a rotary. The ValueGuard Paint Correction Creme is made for this, and if you use it you'll basically take off so much clear that you have to think twice about ever polishing the car aggressively again. Some stuff is best lived with.

Well i guess i am glad i didnt use the 3m Rubbing compound :P. I guess i will use the yellow pad with the Optimum polish in a few weeks. Or try the AIO for my water etching.

Just remember that you can always go one step more aggressive if you need to, and always use the least aggressive method as possible to achieve the desired results.

There are different levels of "3M Rubbing Compound", the one you mentioned just happens to be a little too aggressive for the PC. If you haven't done any test polishing yet to see what gets rid of the etching you are referring to, I'd pick a small area, and start with AIO and work your way up the aggressiveness scale from there.

After AIO would be your Optimum polish or 3M PI III MG. If that doesn't work, something like Optimum Compound or 3M PI III RC would definitely do the trick.

After you get the etching out, and you are happy with the car's overall finish (defect free), just work your way back down the scale.

Hope this helps.
